Everyone sheds dander every day. Because the skin renews itself about every four weeks and repels the old, dead skin cells. The scales are so tiny that you usually don’t even notice them. However, if the skin gets rid of the old cells too quickly and if they also clump together, dandruff becomes visible.

So, are you suffering from annoying dandruff? We have a few useful home remedies and tips to help you get rid of dandruff.

Different types of dandruff

There are many different reasons why the scalp develops dandruff. These must be identified so that dandruff can be combated effectively and in the long term. To do this, it must first be clear whether it is dry or greasy dandruff.

Dry dandruff

The scalp is itchy and dandruff falls onto your shoulders. The cause of dry dandruff can be, for example, too much heat when washing and blow-drying your hair, but also too much sun, aggressive care products, or dry heat air can lead to dandruff on the scalp. The scales are a protective mechanism of the skin, which wants to protect itself from stress with additional horny scales. In addition to the home remedies listed below, you can use a mild shampoo for dry dandruff as regular shampoos are often too drying.

Greasy dandruff

If dandruff feels sticky and gets stuck in the hairline, for example, it is greasy dandruff. These are caused, for example, by yeast fungi on the skin (Pityrosporum ovale), which is part of the natural skin flora but can multiply too much under unfavorable conditions. An unbalanced hormonal balance can also promote greasy dandruff. The scalp produces too much sebum, which sticks together the dead skin cells. As a supplement to home remedies, you can use special anti-dandruff shampoos three times a week for greasy dandruff. These flush away excess sebum and inhibit fungal growth.

While men are more prone to greasy dandruff, women are more likely to struggle with dry scalps. To combat dandruff in the long term, home remedies should be used two to three times a week for at least one month.

Important: Shake the bottle well before use so that the oil can combine with the anti-dandruff mixture.
