Agricultural waste

Agricultural waste is one of the leading causes of water contamination and pollution of water bodies. Along with that, industrial wastes are also known for contaminating water bodies due to the release of harmful chemicals in them. The release of crops and livestock leads to the generation of large amounts of agricultural waste left in the water bodies. They lead to water contamination with Fish, bacteria, viruses, and other dangerous pathogens that can potentially affect the health of individuals. Along with that, the livestock releases antibiotics, hormones, salts, and heavy metals in the water bodies, which leads to contamination. Fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides used by farmers are also known for contaminating the water bodies and destroying their original structure.

The disinfection procedure of the water is also known for contamination through the addition of chlorine. They are utilized in controlling microbial growth. However, if it is added in extremely high amounts, they result in irritation in the eyes, nose, and stomach of the person consuming the water.

Disinfection also creates harmful byproducts like bromates, hello citric acid, and trihalomethanes. These chemicals are cancerous and increase the dangers of harmful diseases caused by the degradation of water. Along with that, other chemicals like chlorite are known for increasing the risk of anemia and nervous system dysregulation among young children and infants.

Weather conditions 

The quality of water bodies is also affected by the area’s weather conditions. Places with extremely high temperatures and warm water lead to algae bloom which can be dangerous and toxic. Such algae like residing in water that lack movement and coldness. They are also found in areas with high levels of nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus. 

Consumption of water containing bacteria or viruses results in the development of diseases like diarrhea and gastrointestinal issues. It also results in feeling nausea and constant vomiting. Lack of hydration is also observed in some cases. In an extreme scenario, there are instances where people die due to the consumption of contaminated water.  The consumption of water rich in copper or other pathogens may lead to illnesses in the liver and kidneys. These organs are vital in the proper functioning of the body, and any damage in them can lead to unfavorable consequences.
