A conversational AI assistant is being developed by Darwin AI, a Brazilian AI firm, for small enterprises in Latin America that wish to use AI but need an IT staff member. To increase sales, the assistant is made to engage with clients in a more human-like way. If the conversation turns wrong or becomes a sales lead, a human will be brought in to carry on the discussion.

The app, a shared inbox solution for WhatsApp aimed at mid-market businesses, is co-founding this second venture. Before selling to Zenvia in 2020, they built the company to a $15 million annual recurring revenue and a presence in 25 countries

In 2022, Schiaffino and Sculli departed Zenvia and began discussing their plans. They knew they intended to support the same market and make complicated technology understandable for anyone with the technical know-how, time, or resources to create anything from scratch.

According to Schiaffino, TechCrunch, “AI is a great opportunity, but difficult to implement for small businesses.” We witnessed the development of the midmarket when business-to-consumer companies in Latin America discovered that while lead generation is high, conversion rates are poor. A person must speak with 100 or 200 prospects to sell one product.

Thus, Schiaffino and Sculli started working on Darwin AI’s system, which integrates with an organization’s CRM to assess potential leads for sales and forwards the most likely-to-buy ones to a human sales representative. Darwin uses AI to screen leads and clients after considering business needs. According to Schiaffino, it is a two-way system that “talks” to customers and staff to forward the most crucial leads.

Over 20% yearly growth in the conversational AI market is anticipated through 2030 as more businesses automate their operations. Due to this, several firms have emerged that aim to address this issue for businesses, including Rasa, Kore.ai, DXwand, and OpenDialog.

As this happens, the business is onboarding more users to configure the AI further. Darwin is also on the verge of introducing a self-learning artificial intelligence feature that will eliminate the need for dedicated IT personnel and have a company up and running in a few days.

Darwin was founded in 2023 and has since processed hundreds of chats. Its clientele includes people from Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia. This year, the company plans to have over a million chats. It can connect to local CRMs and includes an integration with Zapier.

The business has generated income since its founding. According to Schiaffino, the founders knew they had a winner when users were making payments even before the user interface existed. However, he would not disclose Darwin’s income generation figure. Darwin charges a usage cost for each conversation, a setup fee, and a preset monthly plan. This year, more plan tiers will be added.

With pre-seed and a seed round included, Darwin has raised $2.5 million. The most recent $2.1 million investment was headed by Canary, with participation from H20 Capital Innovation, Dalus Capital, FJ Labs, and Latitude Capital.

To sum up, the introduction of Darwin AI’s AI-driven sales assistant represents a noteworthy advancement for small enterprises in Latin America. Through artificial intelligence, these businesses gain access to a state-of-the-art tool capable of transforming their sales procedures. This sales assistant boosts operational efficiency and enables companies to make informed decisions based on data, comprehend customer behaviors, and refine their sales strategies.
