And Concord Group means SM Kamaluddin. He is the chairman of the group. He was a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering. Passed and entered an engineering institute. He worked there for eight years. He then independently founded a company called Concord.
Then Bangladesh is a new country. Rehabilitation and reconstruction work is going on across the country. At that time, Concorde was founded in 1983. In the beginning Concord Construction was a very small company. At that time there were not many roads in the country, most of them were destroyed in the liberation war, the bridges were blown up by bombs, the port was not being used properly and the condition of the airport was not so good. At that time SM Kamaluddin formed a construction company and started working.
The first task was to rebuild seven damaged bridges on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. That journey of Concord Engineers and Construction Limited continues today. SM Kamaluddin has been involved in building Bangladesh from the very beginning. And now they are one of the biggest construction companies in the country. Concorde associated with multifaceted work. Concord Group or SM Kamaluddin’s name is associated with many new things in the country. Concord Group is now the biggest name in establishing theme parks, real estate, eco-friendly building materials production, not just construction. Not only in the country, they have been involved in construction work outside the country.
The 20-storey Shilpa Bank building in Motijheel, the 22-storey Life Insurance Building, the 24-storey head office of Janata Bank — these were all built by Concord in the 80’s and 90’s. Concorde’s numerous buildings and installations, such as the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation’s office building, the Titas Gas head office, the T&T building, and the VIP terminal at the airport.
However, one of the glorious achievements of SM Kamaluddin is the construction of National Memorial. Apart from this, the group has also renovated Bangabhaban after independence and constructed a conference room in the Prime Minister’s Office. SM Kamaluddin has also taken Concord out of the country.
