• Does an adult supervise the homework area in the program? An adult staff member should be on hand to answer questions, ensure that no plagiarism (cheating) occurs, and keep pupils focused on completing their assignments.
Consider letting your child finish his “simple” homework at school and reserve the critical homework for home if the program appears to do a good job with assignments. For example, my daughter performed those (ridiculous) arithmetic and spelling worksheets on occasion in the after-school program, but she reserved reading and crafts for the home.
Please don’t force your child to engage in an after-school homework program if it isn’t up to par. Wrong, hasty, sloppy, and time-consuming homework is a waste of time. Instead, allow your youngster to play, relax, and eat a snack in the afternoon. Later, he’ll be in a lot better mood to finish his schoolwork.
