How Ridiculous is one of the popular Australian YouTube channels. The channel is run by Brett Issac Standford, Derek Douglas Herron and Scott Steven Gauson. The three friends launched their YouTube channel on 9th September, 2009. The channel currently has 20.1 million subscribers. The videos of the channel are viewed by more than 10 billion viewers. The trio created the channel “How Ridiculous” which is based in Perth which is situated in Western Australia. The trio has also received the Golden and Silver play button from YouTube for their millions of subscribers. 

History about How Ridiculous

The group members of How Ridiculous met at a church and began making trick-shot videos in their backyard in 2009. They created those videos just for fun. At first Kyle Nebel was also one of the members of How Ridiculous but later he left the group due to some reasons. Historically, the trick-shot videos included trick shots, finding creative ways to destroy objects and throwing or dropping objects from great heights. Since the year 2015, many videos of the trio are being recorded at the Gravity Discovery Centre situated at the Leaning Tower of Gingin. 

The trio has also recently produced several contents including videos where the trio are testing the ability of various objects to throw or pass through obstacles such as weather balloons, glass plates, and sheets of drywall.

At the end of 2021, How Ridiculous began releasing a series of short videos and reels on both YouTube and Instagram respectively. Some videos were just short clips from their YouTube videos but most of the videos featured participants who were quickly completing tasks and challenges which included 

  • popping balloons
  • breaking glass
  • unlocking doors
  • making basketball shots

The short videos contained multi-stage races that was to be completed by the participants. These short films within a less time period became viral hits instantly on both YouTube and Instagram. The short videos gained hundreds of millions of views and prompted the team to release numerous long YouTube videos with similar themes and contents. The current most viewed long video on YouTube of How Ridiculous was uploaded in November 2021. The YouTube video features a competition between three stars at the RAC Arena in Perth.

The trio: Brett Stanford, Scott Gaunson and Derek Herron attempted to pop multiple weather balloons in succession using various objects. The whole activity was photographed with their Phantom camera. One of the best objects were an arrow which was shot from a recurve bow and a bunch of screws which were thrown at once both the objects popped 11 balloons at a glance. In January 2022, this balloon video was gained billions of views. It had overcome the viewers count of their previous video which was uploaded in October of 2018. The video featured Brett Stanford dropping a bowling ball from a height of 165 meters onto a trampoline at Luz zone Dam in Switzerland.

In addition to Switzerland and the RAC Arena, the group has also visited and created mesmerising contents from all over the globe. The places where they created their YouTube videos include:

The group had released another highly popular video on 19th October, 2018. In the video the trio throws a giant metal arrow into a bulletproof glass table from a height of 150 feet (45 meters). The arrow was almost completely embedded in the centre of the glass and the image was considered highly artistic/symbolic. So, the group kept the glass and arrow intact and later built a new table from them. It is currently kept as an attraction at the Gravity Discovery Centre. A limited-edition T-shirt depicting an arrow stuck in glass was also released by the trio.

In recent years, the trio has added a fourth member to their regular team. The fourth member is Jack Wallace who is known as “Editor Jack.” His main work is camera work and post-production editing. However, he has personally appeared in several videos, most notable appearance of Jack Wallace is on one of the videos in which he showed off his speedcubing skills while riding a waterslide at Dubai’s Aquaventure. The team also received occasional support from several friends, celebrities, and other YouTube stars. The most frequent and close friends are Harrison, Michael, and Big Guy Nick. Rexy is officially featured in several YouTube videos mainly which are created and filmed at the Gravity Discovery Centre.

The trio had launched another channel named as HR Gaming on 9th October, 2020 besides their official channel How Ridiculous. In the HR Gaming channel, the trio along with Editor Jack and his brother Toby Wallace play games together. They play games such as 

  • Among Us
  • Minecraft
  • Rocket League
  • Fortnite

They often play games in a group and beat with secondary challenging teams making stages of the game difficult. This second channel was not much successful like their main channel How Ridiculous. Currently the channel HR Gaming is inactive for a certain period of time. The most recent video of the gaming channel was released on 7th May, 2021. According to the year 2023, the trio did not express any interest in activating and again start with their HR Gaming channel.

Guinness World Records 

As per the sources and research, the trio has set the current Guinness World Record for “longest non-competition golf putt” at 120.6 meters (396 feet) in 2017. Brett Stanford had achieved the record because he had sunk a putt at Western Australia’s Point Walter Golf Course. 

How Ridiculous uploaded a video where the trio was shooting a basketball from 201.42 meters (660.8 feet) and setting the current record for “highest height to shoot a basketball” on 19th January, 2018. They received appreciations from people all over the world. The trio had filmed the video and performed the activity at Maletsuyane Falls in Lesotho, Africa. This is the fifth time How Ridiculous has held this record since Derek Herron first broke the record in 2011 with a ball shot from 66.89 meters.

A video of the channel How Ridiculous shows that Brett Stanford also attempted to set a Guinness World Record for “Tallest ping pong ball shot into a red plastic cup.” The video was uploaded on YouTube on 27th August, 2021. The shot was taken from the catwalk at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. Unfortunately, it was not recognized as a record because the cup diameter used was 90 millimetres (3.5 inches) rather than the required 85 millimetres (3.3 inches). 

The owners of How ridiculous which is one of the rich and famous YouTube groups had revealed that the oversight was completely unintentional and that they intend to try again with a properly sized cup later on coming years.
