Earlier in the night, a rocket fired from Gaza hit southern Israel. A house is slightly damaged. However, Israeli police said there were no casualties.
The Israeli military says four more rockets were fired from the blocked coastal area after the airstrikes. However, the air defense system has destroyed them in the sky. So far no Palestinian group has claimed responsibility for the rocket attack.
Hamas, the ruling group in Gaza, said in a statement that the Israeli bombing would only encourage Palestinians to “resist the occupation.” It will further strengthen their support for Jerusalem and its people.
Violence in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories continues to escalate, raising fears of a major conflict. Last year, more than 250 Palestinians were killed in an 11-day Israeli offensive in Gaza. Thirteen people were killed in Israel. In March, Israeli forces killed 29 Palestinians in an operation in the West Bank. At least 14 people were killed in a series of roadside bombings in Israel at the same time.
Israeli riot police also attacked the Al-Aqsa Mosque last week. At least 158 worshipers were injured. Tensions have risen this year as Muslims coincide with a part of the holy month of Ramadan during the Jewish Passover festival.
