Boxing might seem too violent to casual viewers who don’t know about the sport’s nuances, but those who are more knowledgeable or regularly compete in it will tell you that there is nothing like boxing. The sport isn’t violent for the sake of being violent. Instead, it’s an art. Boxing consists of only four punches that can be thrown with either hand. Some people will often increase the number of possible punches in boxing by including variations, but the reality is that these four punches are the basis for every punch thrown or landed in the ring.

The art of punching is something boxers master over time. Boxing is a discipline that’s also part of other martial arts. For instance, kickboxing and Muay Thai practitioners also punch in their respective sports. Similarly, MMA practitioners also integrate boxing into their game plans. However, none of these practitioners achieve the same fluidity or punching prowess as their boxing counterparts. As a result, it’s not surprising that boxing is also called “The Sweet Science.” After all, boxers can’t unleash creative new techniques on their opponents in the ring due to the sport’s limited ruleset. But they can hurt and knock out opponents through precision, accuracy, and timing.

If you’re a boxing fanatic, you might have seen some influencers sharing boxing tips and knowledge on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Jay Smoove is one of those influencers. However, the difference between him and other social media influencers is that Jay has been a boxer since he was a teenager. He has laced a pair of gloves and tested his mettle against opponents. As a result, he understands the grit and tenacity required to become a boxer. Likewise, he’s also aware of how difficult life is for most pugilists.

Jay Smoove’s boxing journey started when he was thirteen. He trained on and off for years, participating in some amateur bouts. But he didn’t take the sport seriously until he was nearly twenty. Most people don’t understand that the life of a boxer requires immense discipline and sacrifice. Amateur boxers often compete in hundreds of fights because their bouts are shorter – nine-minute fights of three rounds compared to thirty-six-minute fights of twelve rounds for professional boxers. Nine minutes might sound paltry, but they feel like a lifetime when another person tries to punch your head off your shoulders in the ring.

As a result, boxers engage in intense training camps to ensure they’re fit enough to fight the entirety of their bouts at a high pace. They’ll typically run three to five miles daily. In addition, they undergo intense sparring sessions to get them physically and mentally ready for fights. Jay understands the life of a boxer, but that doesn’t mean he adjusted to it immediately. He faced multiple bumps in the road as an amateur because he had trouble staying consistent. Distractions would pop up in life, and he didn’t have the guidance to ensure he stayed focused.

From a very young age, he knew he had to take the sport seriously in order to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a boxing champion. He grew up watching the likes of Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and Sugar Ray Leonard. Jay dreamt of being the man in the ring, just like his idols. As a result, Jay dedicated himself entirely to the sport when he turned 20 because he was tired of seeing upcoming boxers living out his dream while he was distracted. Jay knew he needed to change his life. Hence, he focused on time management, allocating time to work, boxing, and his family. He tries to follow his schedule daily and avoid distractions as much as possible.

Ultimately, Jay Smoove believes that following his schedule like a professional will ensure he gets what he deserves. He wants to make a name for himself and provide for his family by doing what he loves: boxing. He has always loved to fight, and he’s a born winner. He sums it up by sharing his mantra, “winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing.”
