Do you have kids in your car most of the time? Use the five simple tips outlined below to keep it as clean as possible.

1. Before Boarding, Wash Up!

Want to make sure that your young ones don’t drag food, sand, dirt and germs into your clean car every time they come along for a ride? The easiest solution is to insist that they wash their hands before they board the car. This is a win-win solution as it is also an important aspect of good hygiene. You are keeping a lot of germs and bacteria from coming into your vehicle whenever you wash up before boarding. You can get a fancy hand washing system or simply use hand sanitizer, if you can’t access a sink and some soap.

2. Clean Up Any Messes As Soon As Possible

While it might be more of a challenge, we recommend that you clean your car or your young one’s seat immediately after a mess, if you can. You can prevent the accumulation of germs or bacteria as a result of leaving dirt, sand and crumbs to sit in place for long – say days or even weeks! Alternatively, you can rent a sanitized car seat after taking your dirty seat in for cleaning, if you are really pressed for time. Keep a handheld vacuum close by, whether that’s in your garage in your car’s trunk. Shake out car mats regularly and give them a good vacuuming, take a look at these BMW car mats designed to fit perfectly. Cleaning up any messes as soon as possible will be much easier and more convenient this way.

3. Stock Up On Napkins And/or Wipes

It is highly likely that you will be eating in the car while driving – especially given today’s faced paced lifestyle. Parents with kids are more likely to find themselves or their kids having breakfast or lunch before dropping off at school or other engagements. You and your passengers should have paper towels, napkins or baby wipes available nearby. You can use the center console, front dashboard or seat back pocket, among others, to store some. Furthermore, older kids can even clean as they eat as long as the napkins or wipes are easily accessible.

4. Stock Up On Plastic Bags

If you really want to keep your car clean with children – especially those still in diapers – it is important to stock up on plastic bags. The best thing is that these bags can be used for a variety of things including accidents, carrying dirty clothes, trash or even diapers. If you are outside and your pet has an accident, you can also use these bags. In addition to the plastic bags you might accumulate from shopping, consider getting some biodegradable doggie poop bags as well.

5. Organization Is Key

Staying clean and organized is much easier if you are organized from the start. With that in mind, get down to organizing your vehicle. Get rid of any stuff that you don’t like or use, after carefully going through your car. In other words, declutter. It’s difficult not to keep random items in the car – we are all guilty of it. You name it; school sweatshirts, toys and receipts, and much more can be found in cars. You can become and remain cleaner by simply clearing out all that unnecessary stuff. For better results, try getting a car caddy or any other organizational solution. You can get several caddies, one for each child, if you have more than one child. You can also consider asking your kids to take out any unnecessary stuff like papers and wrappers out of the car, so as to keep it clean. This is a simple activity that can be accomplished by children of all ages, including younger ones.
