Board (ECB) has officially announced the appointment of a former Kiwi star as its coach this evening. McCullum is currently the head coach of the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders.

AdvertisingHe also recently said goodbye to the Knight Riders after receiving a green signal from the ECB.

A statement from the England board said McCullum would return to England later this month. England will play their first Test of the season on June 2 at Lord’s. That too again against McCallum’s country New Zealand. McCullum is expected to take over from that series. Before that, of course, he has to get a work permit.

Chris Silverwood stepped down as England coach in February after a 4-0 defeat in the last Ashes. The England Cricket Board then decided to have a separate coach for Test and limited overs cricket. Accordingly, McCullum, who played 101 Tests in white, was assigned to Joe Root. The former Kiwi captain has a total of 12 centuries, including the world record for the fastest century in 54 balls in this format.
