Making sure I’m getting the greatest deal on all of the services I pay for is one of the things I usually attempt to do, and recently it has occurred to me that I could be paying too much for my phone service. I thought it would be a good idea to try Mint Mobile after doing some research and viewing some of the advertisements. So what exactly is Mint Mobile? Well, Mint Mobile is a brand-new, less expensive phone carrier that debuted in 2016. Additionally, I’ve been told by a few members of the fire community that the service is very much on par with that of any other significant phone provider. The price is both the most significant and fascinating feature of Mint Mobile. Right now, their prices are incredibly inexpensive; in contrast, I now pay around $70 monthly for four gigabytes of data through AT&T. Here are the current fees for Mint Mobile. At the time I’m making this video, a three gigabyte monthly plan costs fifteen dollars for eight gigabytes and twenty dollars for twelve gigabytes. It costs $25 per month, or $30 per month if you have unlimited data. You can therefore imagine that when I saw these pricing, I was both very curious and a bit uneasy because I liked the coverage I had at the time, but it was cheaper than what I’m currently paying for unlimited data. So I decided to sign up for it, and yep. Since I enjoy listening to audiobooks and would rather have access to them anywhere I am than just at home, I choose to spend a little extra and purchase the unlimited plan. I also enjoy being able to stream content while I’m on the run without worrying about how it will impact me.

I would feel so much relief if I had my data. Therefore, I chose the unlimited plan. I thought, Hey. I’m only spending about half of what I used to. Therefore, why not reward myself and, to be completely honest, with only a monthly cost difference of $10 between what I essentially had—a four-gig plan—and what would put me in their eight-gig plan at $20 per month, why not indulge myself? I didn’t see much of a difference between that and unlimited data, but if you were truly committed to saving money, you might choose the $15 plan and save even more now. You should be aware that those pricing for Mint Mobile do not include a phone. Additionally, Mint Mobile requires a three-month payment upfront when you sign up for service, and they price their packages in this manner. You don’t truly pay month to month as you would with your old carrier because they sell them in three-month, six-month, and 12-month chunks. However, if you can do it, paying three months at a time will result in total financial savings. Only when you pay for 12 months in advance do the lowest pricing points become available. Therefore, if you decide to simply pay for three months in advance, it will cost more, but it will still be cheaper than other plans from other carriers. It’s considerably less than it would initially be because I’m only testing this out, and I’m choosing the three-month plan, which raises my price to $40 per month for unlimited service, which is still less than half of what I was paying before for AT&T. Of course, that depends on whether it actually works and whether the coverage is good, so I’ll be testing that out over the course of the next month, so how it goes right now. I’m not sure right now if the costs I mentioned don’t also cover the price of your phone. You’ll likely have to abide by the terms of your existing carrier’s contract if you don’t purchase your phone outright. Unless there’s a way—I’ve never heard of this before, but maybe it exists—where you can return your phone and be out of that contract, you’ll have to see that through to the end before you can try another carrier. Mobile Mint. Additionally, it offers a method to buy a plan if you don’t currently own your phone altogether; according to their website, these plans vary from $30 to $60 per month for phones, but without really buying one. I’m not sure if you have to pay for that in three-month installments as well or if the agreement is truly month-to-month. Another thing to be aware of with Mint Mobile is that if you’re using your current phone, you must put a new SIM card in it. Now, as part of your plan, they provide you a SIM card and send you these useful small envelopes filled with the necessary items. Thus, it contains: This has already been opened, and when I did so, I somewhat tore it. Hopefully, though, the concept is still clear. This little package contains a tiny tool, which is what was sent. I’m not sure if you can see it, but it’s incredibly little to remove your current phone’s sim card, and it also comes with this tiny card here. [Applause], where the sim card is somewhat obscured by this small gap. So, sure, can you see that? They do offer some tech support videos to show you how, and they also have some recommendations printed in this tiny uh envelope that they deliver. So there’s where the sim card is, and you simply pop it out and place it into your phone. I actually recorded myself following along with these movies in order to demonstrate to you the steps you need to perform, but it resulted in a rather long video. In the future, I’m Melissa, and I’m here to share with you the outcomes I’ve experienced with Mint Mobile. I know I said I’d check in on this in around a month, but it’s actually been about four months. As a result, I’ve been delaying the release of this film while prioritizing the release of other videos. However, I believe that four months is a reasonable amount of time to test out Mint Mobile and report my results, which, to be honest, are quite positive. However, I’m going to offer you a few instances where it wasn’t quite as good as a T service. I’ll use my sister and I going camping a few months ago as an example. We were on the beach in a somewhat isolated region of a state park, and I didn’t have a very reliable signal there. It was maybe five miles or more from the closest town, I don’t know. I’m not sure how my signal would have been if AT&T had been my service provider, but I can say that my sister’s service was more reliable. She succeeded in making a connection. She was around more frequently than I was, but not by much, so our connection was sporadic. Who needs self-service when you’re camping? I had a less reliable connection, which was a little bothersome, but you know, you’re camping. Next, I’ll mention that despite living in a huge metropolis, there are a few parts of town where my bars are really low. I guess I didn’t entirely anticipate that to be the case, but I’ll just appear wherever at random. It has never actually stopped me from doing anything that I needed to accomplish inside of my large city, where I just had one or two bars—and that seems kind of bizarre to me. Of course, with one or two bars, I can still make a phone call if necessary. When I just have one or two bars, I’ve even been able to watch YouTube videos on my phone, and my favorite activity—listening to podcasts—is completely fine. I’ve been able to use iTunes while traveling to download things and listen to music.

Using Mint Mobile hasn’t hampered any of that, although, as I mentioned, there are times when I find myself in a scenario where I feel as though I shouldn’t have so low bars, but I do, and, like I said, it doesn’t really bother me. Additionally, Mobile deserves some praise for something they accomplished that I didn’t anticipate, but which is incredibly fantastic. I received a message that said, “Yeah, Ryan, Reynolds Owen, Smith, Mobile, so Ryan Reynolds Records, the messages that you get from Mint Mobile,” and it was from Ryan Reynolds himself. That’s kind of entertaining, right? In any case, that’s kind of entertaining, and Ryan Reynolds was kind enough to personally inform me that I wasn’t using enough data to qualify for an unlimited plan, and their recommendation was for me to downgrade my plan and pay less. What other business have you dealt with where they were like, “Hey, you’re not using our services completely?” So why not switch to a less expensive plan? That totally impressed me. That seems incredibly ethical to me. Thanks to Mitt Mobile, it’s like, above and above ethical because, you know, they’re losing money because I’m doing it, but that was their advise to me. I really appreciated it, so overall, I have to admit that I’m happy with Mint Mobile, especially given the current price difference. I was paying about seventy dollars a month with AT&T, therefore my current monthly payment of roughly forty dollars is surely insufficient to cover an additional 57 dollars of service costs. To me, that is simply not worth it. This is not a major sacrifice; I can live without my phone when I go camping and with a few weak spots in my city. So, I heartily endorse them. I believe the service to be excellent, and I advise anyone who now pays more than $40 per month for unlimited data to give it a try. They also offer far more affordable plans, but because I initially went with that one, it is what I am currently using. In the future, I’ll probably modify it, and my cost will be even lower, but for now, I’m just ecstatic. You might wonder, given the value I receive for the money I spend, “Did I get paid to do this video and give them a nice review?” No, is the response. This is entirely my personal view.
