We caught up with artist Letoa, to get the scoop on his latest project and success in the music industry.

First and foremost, I’m glad to have you here with us today. Could you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started?

Letoa: I started making raps for fun with my cousins and it slowly started to gain some traction. I started to reach out and collaborate with a whole lot of artists and that helped grow my audience, and kept releasing music, which has helped to form my dream career today.

Do you compose your own music and make your own beats? Is it typically a collaborative effort?

Letoa:It’s definitely a collaborative effort, as I still lack some knowledge is production and mixing. I love working with my friends to create these songs and I also learn a lot from them in the process.

Who were your initial musical influences? Who had the greatest overall influence on you?

Letoa:An artist that definitely influenced my style later on was definitely ‘snot’. Hence my sound when I first started gaining traction, but definitely in my early teen years my inspiration was ‘Joey Badass’ and ‘Capital Steez’.

What do you believe are the essential stylistic qualities that help your music resonate with listeners?

Letoa:I personally feel that the monotone delivery & abnormal flows that I go for, have definitely drawn some attention to myself as an artist. I also think that my selection of beats or producers that I work with, along with strong visuals in music videos are an important part of how listeners connect with my music.

What has been the most difficult event in your profession or life thus far, and how have you overcome it?

Letoa:It isn’t easy, and to be completely transparent, I’ve thought about quitting many times due to stream numbers dropping & pressure of consistently making music. But the way I overcame it was thinking what my younger self would think, if he had known it would all come together & I thought back to the kid I once was having so much fun making dumb raps and how proud he would be of the position that I am in today.

On the other hand, what would you consider a high point in your career thus far?

Letoa:For me, being able to make high quality music videos alongside my songs and performing my music in front of thousands of people at festivals are the most gratifying parts of what I get to do today. I feel really privileged to be able to do that as my job!

Could you tell us about one of your latest songs, “So Fresh So Clean”, and what fans can hear from this song?

Letoa:This song is a bit of a switch up in style and closer to what I’m trying to develop myself into, and separate myself from the scene to make my own sound. I also teamed up with 24KMedia to create a movie-like music video that I think really brings the song alive.
