Introduction:

Series, an iOS photo app that enables you to arrange your photos for social media posting creatively, is quickly emerging as the Photo Layout App Series indispensable companion tool for users posting their photos to Instagram Threads. On Threads, images may be viewed in full-screen mode, and with the proper formatting, you can also share seamless full-screen panoramas of your photographs.

This has led to some users starting to test out the new format. Artist Pete Halvorsen, one of these users, broke up images so viewers could click on them in full-screen mode and swipe through them.

In response, Threads users requested new tools, notably TH+, which Series developer Ryan Carver added to meet their needs and simplify this process.

Carver has experience in both design and photography. He formerly oversaw product development at the photo-sharing app VSCO and co-founded Typekit, which was acquired by Adobe and is now known as Adobe Fonts. He has, however, been a self-employed iOS developer for the last four years, primarily concentrating on Series.

After that, he says, “I wanted better tools to explore the visual relationships between images and easier ways to share multiple images.” It’s a terrific format for sharing several photographs in original layouts; he said: “that the Instagram Carousel became the canvas for this.”

The series was initially intended to be a tool for designing for TikTok and other social media platforms besides the Instagram carousel. The app provides a variety of tools for combining images and videos, in addition to other features like simple margin and edge controls, the capacity to use layered photos or videos to create backgrounds, adaptable layouts for using diptychs and triptychs to tell stories, the ability to post carousels, and more.

According to Carver, the ideal approach to using Series is to upload multiple photographs and then experiment with the various layouts it provides to present your visual narratives, such as photo pairings, stacks, grids, and carousels.

But within days of Threads’ public release, Carver, according to him, added a new TH+ Frame Ratio to Series after realizing that Threads offered full-screen panoramas. Since then, Meta staff members have been aware of and used the capability. CTO Andrew Bosworth (@boztank) tweeted a stunning Everest Pano that garnered over 7,000 likes and 180 replies.

Since then, several users on Threads have started experimenting with the pano option, which involves taking one image and distributing it across several panels so that users may swipe across it. Some carousels also include the complete image at the end.

Users of Series must switch to the Pro subscription to access the TH+ Frame Ratio.

Other sophisticated tools included in this $15 yearly package can import and arrange more than two photos or movies at once; the ability to export video up to 60 seconds long, high-resolution export, the ability to preview Instagram Posts or Stories before exporting, custom templates so you can save and use your favorite looks, power tools for complex layouts, and custom app icons.

Series has garnered about 5,000 monthly active users since launching version 1.0 in December 2019, with nearly half being paid customers. With the addition of video capabilities and other layout options, the program was updated to version 2.0 in December 2022. Another recent July release targeting Threads users featured the TH+ Frame Ratio.

In response to a query from Series on Threads asking if there was a dev-relations person for Threads the app creator could speak to, Instagram head Adam Mosseri expressed interest in the app. The software is available on the software Store for iPhone and iPad users and is a free download with in-app purchases.
