Full body laser hair removal is an efficient and painless solution for getting rid of unwanted body hair. Not only does it remove unwanted strands quickly and effectively, but it can also restore your confidence in yourself as you feel confident again in your body.
To achieve optimal results from your treatment session, it is essential to adhere to certain guidelines beforehand. These will make sure your skin is prepared for the procedure and that there are no negative side effects experienced, says our dermatologist.
1. Get Rid of Any Ingrown Hairs
Ingrown hairs are a common issue that can occur on any part of the body, though they tend to occur more frequently in areas with thicker hair like beards and bikinis.
Ingrown hairs not only cause an itching and irritating issue, but they may also be the breeding ground for infection. These infections may lead to skin rashes, pustules or inflamed cysts on the face as well.
Ingrown hairs can be caused by shaving or tweezing in an incorrect direction, or at an inappropriate place on the body, which can trap them underneath skin. This causes irritation and inflammation that could progress into a painful issue that requires medical intervention if not addressed promptly.

2. Stop Shaving or Waxing for at Least 4 Weeks
Shaving doesn’t remove from the root, but it does cut it short enough to prevent regrowth. This reduces the likelihood of irritation or razor bumps in the bikini area (and other body parts).
Laser hair removal, on the other hand, destroys hair from its root and leaves your skin smooth and silky for long durations.
Waxing can be a painful procedure, so it’s best to leave it to an expert. Additionally, try not to expose yourself to too much sun for several days after your session.
Before scheduling a waxing appointment, it’s essential to let the hair grow out at least 1/4 inch long. This will give the wax enough length to grab onto each individual hair during treatment.
3. Avoid Sun Exposure for at Least 7 Days
Sun exposure not only causes sunburns, but it may also increase your risk for skin cancer. Furthermore, excessive exposure may contribute to wrinkling and eye damage.
Therefore, it is recommended that you avoid the sun for at least 7 days prior to and following your laser hair removal treatment. Doing this will protect your skin and ensure you get optimal results from the procedure.
Use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and apply it every time you go outside, even after taking a shower or swimming. Wear clothing that covers as much of your body as possible and seek shade, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun’s UV rays are at their strongest.
4. Avoid Shaving or Waxing for at Least 24 Hours
Allowing your hair to grow for an extended period can cause irritation or an ingrown hair. To avoid this, be sure to shave the treatment area at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.
The laser must have enough hair in order to conduct heat into the root of a hair follicle. If it is too long, however, it won’t be able to conduct heat effectively and the treatment won’t be successful.
Prior to your laser hair removal session, says our dermatologist in Mumbai, it is imperative that the treatment area be shaved at least 24 hours and you should refrain from waxing or plucking this area for at least 4 weeks.
5. Avoid Waxing or Shaving the Treatment Area
Waxing and shaving both remove hair, but the process is slightly different. Waxing quickly pulls the hair from its root through repeated tugs while shaving only cuts into the surface of your skin and leaves behind no trace of a root.
Waxing completely eliminates a hair follicle, thus inhibiting its growth in the long run. Furthermore, it makes the hairs much finer and softer as it crops them from their root rather than just on top of skin.
Due to the heightened sensitivity of waxing, it’s best to avoid any unprotected sun exposure for at least 4 weeks prior and after your treatment session. If you do go out into the sun, wear a sunscreen with zinc or higher concentration and avoid tanning products.
