The New York Times, Washington Post and Reuters have won the Pulitzer Prize, the highest honor in the world of journalism. Ukrainian journalists have been honored for their “commitment to courage, tolerance and integrity” in covering the ongoing war in their country. The Pulitzer Board also paid tribute to the 12 journalists killed in the Ukraine war.
As per tradition, Columbia University in New York, USA announced the winners of the 2022 Pulitzer Prize on Monday.
The New York Times has won three Pulitzers for the news. The first won for news of a carjacking by police, the second for an international report on the failure of US forces in the Middle East air war. The third prize went to Salamisah Tilet for his writings. This contributor-critic of the New York Times wrote about the presence of racism in the field of art and culture.
The Washington Post, on the other hand, won an award in the public service category for reporting on the attack on the Congress building by supporters of former US President Donald Trump in January last year.
Reuters and a group of photographers from the company have won awards in the feature photography category for taking pictures of devastated India in the face of the coronavirus epidemic. Among those photographers is Danish Siddiqui, who was killed by the Taliban last year. Others are Adnan Abidi, Sana Irshad Mattu and Amit Dev.
Two local Florida newspapers, the Miami Herald and the Tampa Bay Times, have also been awarded.
This is the tenth Pulitzer for Reuters. Seven of them have come in the last five years. On the other hand, the New York Times has won a total of 135 Pulitzers with three awards this year. The first Pulitzer Prize was announced in 1918.
