Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra-Which one should you buy?

There are three new Samsung Galaxy S21 phones in 2022, with similar designs across each model.

Despite having different names, they’re almost identical in terms of specification. However, there isn’t much difference between them from a hardware perspective because the Galaxy S21 series has been developed using the same design principles as previous models since 2018.

Because of this, we expect you won’t see any great differences in performance, battery life, and other areas when comparing the three devices side-by-side. In Australia, you can buy Samsung S21 series phones from https://www.phonebot.com.au/samsung-s21-and-s21-plus and compare prices on Kogan and Catch.

So, to help you decide which one to choose, below are our comparisons of the Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra, including specs and price details.

Samsung Galaxy S21

As a small phone, the Galaxy S21 has an impressive screen size: of 6.7 inches (170mm) for both the 5G and 4G versions.

While it does not have a curved display like the iPhone 11 Pro Max or the Huawei Mate 20 X, the Galaxy S21 still features rounded corners and rounded edges around the sides and back of the device.

The device’s front glass is made of Gorilla Glass Victus, while the rest of the body is constructed from stainless steel.

This makes for a sturdy frame, but it also means that the phone is thicker than many others on the market. However, if you don’t mind the added thickness, then this will not impact your daily use of the device too much.

Inside the phone, you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset paired with six Kryo 480 CPU cores and 12GB RAM. This gives the phone much more processing power and speed than the previous generation of the Galaxy S20 series and its Exynos 990 chipset.

You’ll find a 64MP main lens and 8MP ultrawide camera on the rear camera. For selfies, the Galaxy S21 sports a 32MP depth sensor and 10MP beauty cam instead.

The phone also supports reverse wireless charging, meaning you can place it face down on a compatible pad and charge it without connecting via cables.

It comes in three colours: Black, White and pink; you can only get it in 6.1-inch and 6.3-inch variants of the phone.

Samsung Galaxy S21+

The Galaxy S21+ is larger than the Galaxy S21 on account of its bigger 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display.

However, despite its increased size, the phone does not have a curved edge as found on the Galaxy S20X; instead, Samsung used a flat edge-to-edge display.

The rear cameras of the Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 remain unchanged, featuring a 64MP main lens and 8MP ultrawide camera. Selfies are taken care of by a 32MP depth sensor and 10MP beauty camera.

Inside the phone, you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset with 6 Kryo 480 CPU cores and 12GB RAM. This gives the phone a lot more processing power and speed than the Galaxy S20/S20 Plus and its Exynos 990 chipset.

In the camera department, you’ll find the same specs as those on the Galaxy S21, meaning the main camera uses a 64MP 1/1.4″ main lens, and the secondary camera uses a 13MP 1/1.5″ wide-angle snapper.

Once again, the phone supports reverse wireless charging. So, if you want to take advantage of this feature, make sure you have a compatible power bank. This includes most Qi-enabled chargers from Apple, Google, Samsung and OnePlus.

It also comes in three colours: Black, Blue and silver, available globally at launch starting January 25.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

With a whopping 6.8-inch QHD + Dynamic AMOLED display, the Galaxy S21 Ultra feels pretty large compared to previous generations of the Galaxy S series.

In terms of dimensions, though, it is slightly smaller than the Galaxy S21+. But it isn’t necessarily smaller than the 6.7-inch S21 – just that it lacks the curved edges on the screen found on the later two versions of the phone.

However, the rear camera remains the same, with an upgraded resolution of 108MP compared to the 64MP on the Galaxy S21. As well as offering high-resolution photos, the 108MP camera allows users to capture 10MP super slow-motion video.

The latest Snapdragon 888 processor powers both the S21 and S21 Ultra. Both also come with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, although the S21 is only available with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

One thing that sets the S21 Ultra apart from the S21 and S21+ is its lack of reverse wireless charging. So, if you want to take advantage of this neat feature, pick up a charger that supports it.

That said, the S21 Ultra is just shy of being one of the biggest and heaviest flagships in the world – so if you prefer something slightly heavier, it might not be the best option for you.
