-If your upholstery is made from fabric, use a mild liquid cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Be sure to rinse the fabric well after cleaning.

-For upholstery made from leather or other materials that can easily be stained, use a leather cleaner and a stiff brush. Be sure to re-clean any areas that have been damaged by the cleaner.

-For stubborn soils, try using a steam cleaner with all of the safety precautions listed for dry cleaners. Make sure to wear heavy gloves and eye protection when using a steam cleaner, and be sure to close all windows and doors to avoid exposure to harmful chemicals.

Alternative Cleaners

There are many ways to upholstery cleaning. You can use a standard vacuum cleaner with the appropriate attachments, or you can use one of the following alternative cleaners:

-Window Cleaner: Wet a cloth and wring out the liquid. Wipe down the window panes and streaks.

-All-purpose Cleaner: Mix 1 cup of white vinegar and 3 cups of water in a spray bottle. Spray over the furniture and wipe with a cloth.

-Dishwasher Detergent: Add 1 cup of dishwashing detergent to the washing machine’s regular cycle.

-Lysol Hand Sanitizer: Mist all surfaces with lysol hand sanitizer before cleaning. Brush or vacuum with a clean, lint-free cloth. If you decide to use an all-purpose cleaner, test it on a hidden spot first to make sure it’s safe for your carpet and upholstery.

I live in the country and have 2 cats that shed a lot. I’ve tried many products and nothing is as good as this stuff: I sprinkle some of the powder on my hand and rub it into the cat hair on my furniture, drapes, cat toys, etc… It doesn’t smell like peppermint but more like pine or lemon (which I really like). I leave it on overnight and then rake it off with a whisk broom in the morning. The dusting is great too.
