The ship’s lighthouse tariff has been doubled per ton. Recently, a notification has been issued by the Ministry of Shipping fixing the lighthouse tariff at the rate of Tk 10 instead of Tk 5 per tonne.
According to a circular signed by Muhammad Lutfar Rahman, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, the lighthouse fee of the ship was fixed at Tk 10 per tonne instead of Tk 5 on the basis of the provisions mentioned in Section 11 (1) of the Bangladesh Lighthouse Act, 2020.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Section 9 (1) of the ‘Bangladesh Lighthouse Act, 2020’ states, ‘The Department of Shipping, with the prior approval of the Government, by notification in the Official Gazette, to provide lighthouse services to facilitate ships arriving and departing from ports of Bangladesh and from one port to another. From time to time for each arriving and returning ship, the lighthouse will be able to determine the tariff and collect the tariff accordingly.
Section 11 of the Act states that lighthouse charges should be fixed on the basis of the prescribed net tonnage. At the same time, it has been mentioned in this section about the determination of tonnage.
