Be a Master of a Few Games 

Surely, there are hundreds of games in a casino, and it is difficult to be an expert on everything. However, you must at least pick a few games that you can facilitate. 

The benefit of this is you can rotate between tables, and it gives you a better chance of exposure and finding work. Just imagine if you are applying for a position as a blackjack dealer, but the casino wants a Texas Hold’em dealer — you are more likely to get a job if you know how to deal cards in multiple games.

As a master of several games, you are also expected to be knowledgeable about the rules. As such, you will always make the right call, and nobody can question you about it. For example, you can say that a deal is a misdeal or that a play is void.

You need to have a deep sense of understanding of the rules so your patrons do not get complaints. If you don’t, you will not only lose your job, but the casino may also lose its clients. 

Be Professional at All Times

Professionalism is a wide gamut of things. It includes dressing nicely, being neat, speaking politely, and so much more. • Never point your finger at a player

Always remember that players are your clients, and without them, the casino has no business at all. They deserve respect at all times. If a player is being rude and unruly, or if you suspect that the player is cheating, you must also report it to your manager and let him handle it.

Be Helpful to Players

Being helpful to players does not mean that you should tell them what to do or how to gain an advantage over the house. Being helpful means providing them assistance when they need it.

• Answering questions about rules
• Explaining what happened to the game
• Showing them where to buy chips or cash out
• Calling a waiter for them or telling them how to order.

As you can see, there are many ways you can help a customer. Some may ask you what time the casino closes, or how many decks of cards there are in blackjack, etc. You must answer all these questions to the satisfaction of the customer. 

Of course, you should also know how to avoid a trap. Some players get too agitated if they are losing. To some degree, players would demand the “secret” to winning, which, of course, does not exist. You must learn to avoid being pressured giving answers to privy information, or you are putting the casino’s business at stake. 

Be Interactive

The last thing you must do to become successful is to be an interactive dealer. What it means is that you have to be a lively and energetic game facilitator. Why is this important? Players lose money, so you must know how to cheer them up. 

As an interactive dealer, you are reducing the stress that the players are going through. In addition, you are building camaraderie, especially in a table game where there are many people wagering. 

Of course, you should not get personal. Do not discuss anything about children, spouses, etc. What you can do to be interactive is to focus on the game and congratulate the people who won.

For example, you can always tell players what a good game the last round was. You can also cheer on the winners and tell them how lucky they are. 

As a casino dealer, the management may allow you to crack jokes. However, you must be careful not to offend anybody. Whatever it is you say, you must always think about how players would respond and make sure nobody gets offended. 

To be a successful dealer, you must focus on a few things only. These are mastery of the game, professionalism, being helpful, and being interactive or cheerful.
