A total of 3,138 liters of soybean oil was recovered from a shop in Sadar Bazar of Pabna’s Sujanagar upazila this time. Earlier on Tuesday, 16,244 liters of oil was recovered from the warehouse of a grocery store called Shyamal Store in Ishwardi Upazila Sadar Bazar.
Zahirul Islam, assistant director of the Pabna district office of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, led today’s campaign. Sujanagar Upazila Food Inspector Mirza Imtiaz Uddin and members of Sujanagar Police Station assisted in the operation.
Speaking to members of the department and the expedition team, it is learned that Dulal Ghosh is the owner of a grocery store called Ghosh Store in Bazar. His house is next to the market. He bought soybean oil at a lower price before Eid and hid it at home. Now he was selling oil at a higher price. According to a report, a raid was carried out on his shop and house at around 11 am today. During the operation, 1,602 liters of bottled soybean oil and 1,435 liters of open soybean oil were recovered from various places in the house. Dulal Ghosh was fined Tk 100,000 for hiding oil and selling it at a higher price.
Zahirul Islam, assistant director of the district office, said there was no shortage of open oil in the market. The recovered bottled oil has been sold at the earlier fixed price due to some shortage of bottled oil. The open oil shop owner has been instructed to sell at the previous price. Their campaign will continue.
