- West Bengal
In India, West Bengal produces the most rice. Nearly half of its arable area is used for rice farming. In 2020, West Bengal produced 15.57 million tonnes of rice. However, West Bengal rice growth drastically fluctuated after that. It is the state that produces the most rice, with a yield of 2600 kg per hectare. Because of this, farmers cultivate rice in small patches of the lower Gangetic fields, especially in Bardhaman, Midnapore, Birbhum, 24 Parganas, etc. As a result, this state is India’s top rice producer.
- Uttar Pradesh
On this list of the states that produce the most paddy in India, Uttar Pradesh comes in second. 15.52 million tonnes of rice were produced in Uttar Pradesh in 2020. But after that, the growth of the rice crop in Uttar Pradesh varied greatly. The production of rice takes up around 25% of the state’s developed land. The principal rice-producing states include Muzaffarnagar, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Faizabad, Lakhimpur Kheri, Barabanki, and others. - Punjab
Punjab is one of India’s top states for rice production. This year, this State added an additional 62,000 hectares to the area under direct rice cultivation (DSR), bringing the total to 5.62 lakh hectares, the highest level ever recorded in the state. With the exception of the Ludhiana region, where only 7.4% of the region could be brought under DSR, every location has recorded DSR areas of full-out rice development ranging from 10% to 46%. With a constant increase of 12 million tonnes of rice, the Punjabi territory comes in third. Punjab is renowned for the production of Basmati rice varieties such as Mahi Sugandha, Pusa Basmati, and Ranbir Basmati.
- Andhra Pradesh
The fifth-ranked state on India’s list of top rice producers, Andhra Pradesh, stands out. 8.64 million tonnes of rice were produced in Andhra Pradesh in 2020. With an average annual growth rate of 5.13%, Andhra Pradesh’s rice production increased from 7.45 million tonnes in 2017 to 8.64 million tonnes in 2020. There are 22 significant rice-growing regions in Andhra Pradesh. The largest rice-producing areas in India are Krishna East, Godavari, and West Godavari. In Andhra Pradesh, Samba Madhuri, Samael, Sashari, and Sarvani are all widely distributed. In terms of state production, this state produces the most rice in India.
- Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu has 28 different regions where rice is grown. One region has low efficiency out of the 27 highly productive regions. The average high-efficiency group area for the three years (yield exceeding 2,500 kg/ha) was 20.56 lakh hectares and included 27 regions. In contrast, a highly productive group of 27 regions had a triennium average output of 3,623 kg/ha as opposed to the State’s triennium average productivity of 3,494 kg/ha. Aravan Kuruva, Amsipiti Dhan, Aduthurai, Ambasamudram, and Akshayadhan are a few of the kinds cultivated in Tamil Nadu.
- Bihar
Bihar has 37 regions where rice is cultivated. Out of them, 25 regions are classified as low-productive regions, accounting for 63% of the 36.57 lakh hectares of the state’s total region planted with rice. On the other hand, only one location, for instance, that produces more than 2,500 kg/ha is classified as a high-efficiency region. This state grows Dhanalakshmi, Gautam, Richhariya, and Saroj rice in the winter, and Gautam Pusa-33, CR 44-35 (Saket-4), Pusa-2-21, and Prabhat (90-day-only) rice in the summer.
- Chhattisgarh
