The Annapurna region is the second-most popular region for hiking in Nepal with the Everest region being the most popular. Despite Everest’s worldwide fame, many seasoned hikers will argue that the Annapurna region is overall, more beautiful. Its bio-diversity and spectacular mountain scenery definitely makes it a worthwhile destination not only for avid hiking enthusiasts but for those who are just beginning to love this outdoor activity. The Annapurna region offers visitors many world- class trekking routes, and one of them is the Annapurna Circuit.

The Annapurna Circuit is undoubtedly one of the most challenging yet rewarding Manaslu circuit trek paths in the region. Completing the whole route demands a 17- 21-day trek. But before you think that this is too long – hiking this circuit could easily be one of the most fulfilling experiences of your lifetime. This is because the Annapurna Circuit Trek features a plethora of breathtaking natural landscape mixed with rich and authentic culture. You will not only trek in this circuit, but you will also see important religious sites and picturesque villages. You will encounter raging rivers, a wide range of flora and fauna and find solitude in the snow-capped mountains.

The circuit covers four regions, which are Myagdi, Lamjung, Manang, and Mustang. Myagdi and Lamjung are situated in a lower elevated area and known for their lush green valleys and terraced farms. If you go higher up, you will find Mustang and Manang. The scenery dramatically changes, but so is the religion. On these higher grounds, most inhabitants practiced Tibetan Buddhist, although the Manang population belongs to the Gurung tribe, which has their own distinct cultural heritage. Hinduism is also prominently followed in theregion.

Trekking the Annapurna Circuit Gokyo ri trek usually follows a counter-clockwise movement. You will begin in Besisahar and end up in Nayapul. Towards the end of your trip, you will also be guided to the summit in the Thorung La Pass, which boasts a height of more than 17,000 feet (5416 meters). The route also allows you to pass through several mountains like Manaslu, Langtang, Himal, Annapurna II and IV, Annapurna III, Gangapurna and Macchupucchre, often called “Fishtail Mountain.” For many, the highlight in the circuit is crossing the deepest gorge in the world, between the peaks of Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri. And if you did not get a good look at these two mountains on the trek, you will still have a chance when you reach Poon Hill.

One of the most notable villages you will visit during the trek is Muktinath, a sacred spot for both Hindus and Buddhists. You will also get to explore Braga, which is one of the region’s oldest monasteries. Along the entire route, there are lodges, restaurants and teahouses that offer nourishment and warmth to weary trekkers. In most cases, you will be dining at a lodge, where you will also sleep.

Fortunately, the costs for these traditional lodges are very reasonable. But you can’t expect to enjoy the same modern amenities featured in regular hotels because of the location. There are many outfitters and companies that can arrange the trek for you. Most of their offices are in Pokhara, the favorite gateway town for the Annapurna region. Each company have their own packages and rates; so take your time to consult the agents to find out the most suitable trekking package for you.
