Elon Musk acquired Twitter almost at the end of last year, and since then, he hasn’t been away from the media. There have been multiple changes in the platform after Elon took over, but the recent change has people asking questions about the platform’s authenticity.

After taking over Twitter, Elon contributed to the company by doing mass layoffs, and now he is on a mission to make up for lost profits. Elon Musk’s Twitter has officially announced that the legacy blue tick will not be given to any special person or celebrity but to anyone who pays a monthly or yearly subscription amount.

Verified accounts are now prioritized- Elon musk tweeted

Elon’s Twitter started the blue tick service back in November last year and allegedly started to charge people some amount for the service. Previously the blue tick would be given to notable public interests belonging to the field of music, sports, politics, business, media, journalism, government, religion, and other key interest areas.

The blue tick service started in November last year and received backlash, and Elon had to put a hold on the service. Now, Elon has started the blue tick service replacing the legacy profile verification to receive the Twitter blue tick.

It is reported that people who wish to have the blue tick have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee, and, in return, the user will get the blue tick in their profile and acquire certain benefits like posting tweets with up to 10,000 characters and have prioritized rankings in conversations and search.

The change in the platform bought the opportunity for people who wished to impersonate previously verified persons. Many high-profile users who lost their legacy blue ticks took up Twitter to address the issue and remark on the change in the platform. Some of the users who lost their verified privileges included Beyonce, Pope Francis, Oprah Winfrey, and former President Donald Trump.

Many government agencies, non-profit organizations, and public service accounts were ripped off their verified status shortly after the changes in the platform. The disappearing blue tick raised concerns among users that the platform could lose its authenticity and status as a platform that poses as a place to receive accurate and authentic information from verified sources.

Twitter also offers two other ticks other than the legendary blue tick – grey tick and gold tick. The grey tick is given to government officials, and the gold tick is given to official businesses.
