We are all familiar with Netflix and Spotify for watching movies and listening to music. But, do you know the dark side of those services? don’t worry, I will let you know in this article. Both Netflix and Spotify come with geo restrictions. Which means that people who are from the countries that are geo restricted by the spotify and netflix are restricted from using their services.

So, if you have already faced such an issue, I guess you must have tried using a VPN to access spotify and netflix. That will definitely cost you a handsome amount of money every year despite having a premium subscription of netflix or spotify.

You can remove the geo restrictions of those services with the help of your wifi router. Let’s go through this article to find out what you need to configure on your router in order to unblock restrictions on a router.

How To Remove Geo Restrictions On Your Wifi Router?

Let’s say you are unable to access the netflix website on your pc or mobile device from your country. By following the below instructions, you will be able to remove those restrictions without a VPN. Let’s follow the instructions below.

  • Make sure that you are going to follow the tips mentioned on this article only with your own wifi router. You cannot configure the public wifi settings, so it’s important to note this point.
  • To make things specific and simple, I take att wireless network as an example here. Of course, you can follow the same instructions in any wifi network such as verizon fios, d-link, linksys, etc.
  • Okay, now, you need to open a browser and open attwifimanager login page with the address – attwifimanager/index.html
  • If your wifi router is not AT&T but something else, you should open 192.168.1.1 admin page by using any web browser on your pc or a smartphone.
  • Enter the wireless admin username and password, hit “Login”.
  • Once logged in, open Settings and then go to “Smart DNS Settings”.
  • Now, navigate to Domain Name Server Addresses (DNSs) and select Use These DNS Servers and enter below values.
    • Primary DNS – 169.54.78.85
    • Secondary DNS – 169.52.182.120
  • Now, hit “Apply” and click “Save Changes” to update the smart dns settings to remove the restrictions on your wireless router.

Now, it is highly recommended to restart your wireless router to update the changes that you have made. Using the router directly without restarting will lead to errors and internet might not work properly.

Important Note – Changing the smart DNS settings will not remove parental controls and restrictions set under parental controls.

The above instructions can be followed on most of the wireless routers such as D-Link, Arris Router, Netgear, AT&T, Linksys, Fios by Verizon, JioFi, Airtel Router, Syska, etc.
