IndiGo has appointed Vikram Singh Mehta, the former CEO of Shell India, and former Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa as Independent Non-Executive Directors.

The appointments are contingent on the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s (MoCA) security clearance and the approval of the company’s members.

Vikram Singh Mehta will be appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director to fill the void left by Anupam Khanna’s second term, which ended on March 26.

Both appointments will take effect on the date that the MoCA issues security clearance.

“I am thrilled and pleased to be invited to join the InterGlobe Aviation Limited Board of Directors. From the outside, I’ve always admired the success of its low-cost, polite, efficient, and on-time product. From the inside, I’m looking forward to watching it break new ground,” Mehta remarked.

Larsen and Toubro Ltd, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, Colgate Palmolive India Ltd, Apollo Tyres Ltd, HT Media Ltd, and Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd all have Mehta as an Independent Director on their boards. He also serves on the boards of Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company, the Overseers of Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and Macro Advisory Partners’ Global Advisory Board.

Meanwhile, BS Dhanoa will be appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director to fill the gap created by Meleveetil Damodaran’s retirement as an Independent Director on May 3, 2022, when he reaches the age of 75.

Dhanoa has a long history with the IAF, having served in many capacities. Before becoming the Vice Chief of Air Staff (VCAS) in May 2015, he was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of South-Western Air Command.

From January 1, 2017, until September 30, 2019, he was the 25th Chief of the Indian Air Force, and he headed the IAF when it carried out air attacks on a terror camp in Pakistan’s Balakot in February 2019.

From October 2020, Dhanoa will be an Independent Director on the Board of Hero MotoCorp Ltd.

“Delighted to be on the Board of IndiGo, our country’s market leader in civil aviation, with an innate conviction in performance and safety, principles I treasured most throughout my time in the IAF,” Dhanoa said.

“Everyone at IndiGo is ecstatic to have two such accomplished individuals join our Board of Directors. Mehta has years of expertise operating significant organisations as well as a wealth of knowledge gained through serving on some of India’s most prestigious boards. Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa’s exceptional leadership and crisis management abilities would be extremely beneficial to us. IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta remarked, “We look forward to the leadership and counsel of these two very remarkable people.”
