When Halo Infinite was announced during Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference, the new game quickly shot to the top of our list of games to play this year. Xbox fans will finally get their hands on Master Chief’s next adventure on October 26th, and new details have slowly started to emerge. The new game will apparently feature new characters, new enemies, and a new multiplayer mode. So what’s the story and why is it taking place before the first Halo? Here’s everything we know so far. The game will mark the return of Master Chief, who was last seen in Halo 5: Guardians.
Speaking on the Xbox Showcase podcast, 343 Industries’ Bonnie Ross said “Master Chief is more mature, he’s just grown up a bit”. This isn’t a giant stretch from the character we’ve seen before and it’s clear that he’s been through a lot. The game will be taking place before the events of Halo 5 which will fit in nicely with Halo 4. What is the concept of Halo Infinite?
The campaign follows the human supersoldier Master Chief and his fight against the enemy Banished on the Forerunner ringworld Zeta Halo, also known as Installation 07. Unlike previous installments in the series, the multiplayer portion of the game is free-to-play.
Details of the first multiplayer beta have not been announced yet but 343 has said that the second multiplayer beta will be available to all players of Halo 5 at the same time as the launch of the game.
What is Halo Infinite’s release date?
We don’t know. The developers had previously confirmed that Halo Infinite will be a console exclusive, but to date there is no solid release date. In fact, after Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference, they tried to make the game sound as out there as possible.
Microsoft executive Phil Spencer said that the studio has promised the fans it’ll be out this year, but until it’s out, we really don’t know.
Why has the game been delayed?
It’s hard to say, and we’ll probably have to wait until the end of the year for an official answer. When it was first announced, Halo Infinite was said to be coming to Xbox One and Windows PC with the intention of bringing it out at the same time in autumn 2018. It’s later been claimed that due to the complexity of the title, Microsoft decided to split the game into two parts.
In addition, Xbox head Phil Spencer said that although it was going to be a Xbox launch title, 343 wasn’t going to go all out and spend a lot of money on marketing in the run-up to the game’s release. However, it looks like the company is having a rethink, with Microsoft Executive, Bonnie Ross saying that both Halo Infinite and Gears of War 5 were planned to launch this year.
