To compete with recently released smartphones, Xiaomi is planning to launch a new smartphone named R1 very soon. Let’s see what the company has to offer this time.

Xiaomi plans to launch the R1 most probably on March 6, 2018, but yet there is no official announcement. The device will be sold by Xiaomi under the model number R1. The operating system on this device is Android v7.0 (Android Nougat) out of the box. The device will have MIUI 9 topped on Android OS for a smooth experience. There are two SIMs slots on this device which support GSM. The SIM sizes should be mandatorily nano; the slot is a hybrid one which can accommodate either nano SIMs or a SIM card and a memory card. The networks supported on this device are LTE, 3G, and 2G. There is a fingerprint sensor added for extra security purpose, and the device also supports quick charging. The device is provided with lots of features and hence those who love to have an effective device in a medium budget have loved them.
Design and Display
This device has dimension has 158.5 x 75.5 x 8.1 mm and weighs 179 grams. The display on this device is 5.9 inches, and it has a screen resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. The pixel density of the display is 409 pixels per inch, and hence the images are sharp and clear. The display is IPS LCD type, and hence a person can view from any angle, and the pictures will be glare free. The screen on this device is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass. One can operate the device using fingers which is popularly referred as capacitive touch, and the screen will support multi-touch up to 10 points. Remarkably the screen to body ratio of this device is 75.07%, it can be deduced that the device isn’t going to look like a block of metal. Xiaomi R1 performs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor. This processor consists of octa-core Cortex A53 chipset clocked at 2.2GHz. The architecture of this processor is 64bit. A 64bit architecture is a sole reason why this device will be battery efficient and will easily handle at multi-tasking. There is an Adreno 508 GPU provided along with SD630 for efficient graphical performance and lag-free gaming. The device is backed by 3GB RAM which makes it powerful enough to multi-task and open as well as minimize several apps simultaneously. The internal storage provided on this device is 32GB out of which roughly 8-10GB shall be provided for system applications and operating system. One can also expand the memory up to 256GB by inserting a memory card. The best internal and expandable memory can help the user to store images, songs, and videos as well as important documents on the device.
Camera and Battery
This device sports two cameras on either side, i.e., front and rear. The rear camera is a 12MP shooter enabled with phase detection autofocus. The rear camera’s best feature is optical image stabilization which can reduce vibrancy in the images captured. There is a dual LED flash provided along with a rear camera to capture bright images when ambient lighting isn’t provided. The images will be captured in 4000 x 3000-pixel resolution making the image as sharp and crisp as possible. There is no news about manual mode, but a user can change exposure and ISO from the settings menu. There are two particular shooting modes continuous shooting and high dynamic range. The later one captures images of the finest possible quality. Videos from the rear camera will be recorded in full HD resolution at 30 frames per second. This device will be powered by a 4000mAh battery which can last easily for a day and a half. The battery is the Li-polymer type and cannot be replaced by the user. The best feature of this device is the quick charging feature. One can charge the device up to 50% extremely fast using quick charge feature.
Network & Connectivity
Xiaomi R1 supports LTE, 3G and 2G network. Additionally, Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is provided for rich calling experience. There is Wi-Fi provided with standard approval 802.11a/ac/b/g/n clocked at 5GHz for accessing the internet wirelessly. The internal Wi-Fi hotspot enables a user to share his/her internet connection with other devices. Bluetooth v5.0 is provided for connecting to media devices. Navigation is fulfilled by GPS and other day to day settings can be preset using NFC. The charging and sync on this device are done via USB type C connector.
Verdict:
Xiaomi R1 price in India can be assumed to be around 20000 INR. The device is worth buying in this budget. However, there are obviously many other devices are there to compete this model.
