9 killed in twin blasts in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan

A bomb blast near the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif has killed at least nine people. Afghan officials say all those killed in Thursday’s attack were Shiites. The Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on its telegram account, according to Reuters. IS attacks have resurfaced across Afghanistan since the Taliban came to power last year, Mohammad Asif Wazeri, a spokesman for the Mazar-e-Sharif commander, told Reuters.
