Finnish media Iltalehati reported on Monday that the Swedish government had said it would apply to join NATO on the same day as Finland.
Finland told Sweden that the two countries would work together no matter what.
Then came the news that Finland and Sweden were going to apply to join NATO together.
The media also reported that the two sides have agreed that they will apply anytime between May 18-22.
Russia has warned Finland and Sweden that if they join NATO, the consequences could be dire. However, these two countries are going to ignore these threats.
Finnish President Suley Ninisto will visit Sweden at the time he is being asked to apply.
Meanwhile, Finland and Sweden have been neutral for so long. They were not in favor of joining any military alliance.
But after Russia invaded Ukraine, Russia’s neighbor Finland began to worry about its own security.
They moved away from neutrality and decided to join US-led NATO out of concern for their own safety.
