According to reports, a group of youths blocked the main airport of Sri Lanka at Katunayake. They parked their cars at the entrance of Bandaranaike International Airport. The protesters have taken this measure to prevent the MPs from leaving the country during the ongoing protests.

Earlier in the day, a Sri Lankan MP was killed and another injured in a firestorm in Sri Lanka. Protesters set fire to the homes of at least 50 politicians in Sri Lanka that day.

Sri Lanka police said the protesters shot the two men when the protesters attacked the party MP Amarakirti Atukorala’s car on Colombo. One died. He was then surrounded by anti-government protesters. The lawmaker later committed suicide with his own pistol.

Also on Monday night, a group of people attacked the car of MP Kumara Welgama in the Mahakumbura area of Homgama. The MP was injured and admitted to the hospital.

At least seven people have been killed and more than 150 injured in a series of violent protests in Sri Lanka since Monday, despite a nationwide curfew.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned on Monday in the face of public outrage. However, protesters are still demanding the resignation of his brother, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The Rajapaksa family is getting a sense of how terrible public anger can be. Protesters stormed their ancestral home last night and set it on fire. Minister Sanat Nishanta’s house was also not exempted.
