Sri Lanka’s main airport has been blocked by anti-government protesters to prevent lawmakers from fleeing the country amid ongoing violence. The Sri Lankan media Daily Mirror reported this information on Tuesday (May 10).

They parked their cars at the entrance of Bandaranaike International Airport. The protesters have taken this measure to prevent the MPs from leaving the country during the ongoing protests.
Earlier in the day, a Sri Lankan MP was killed and another injured in a firestorm in Sri Lanka. Protesters set fire to the homes of at least 50 politicians in Sri Lanka that day.
Sri Lanka police said the protesters shot the two men when the protesters attacked the party MP Amarakirti Atukorala’s car on Colombo. One died. He was then surrounded by anti-government protesters. The lawmaker later committed suicide with his own pistol.
Also on Monday night, a group of people attacked the car of MP Kumara Welgama in the Mahakumbura area of Homgama. The MP was injured and admitted to the hospital.
At least seven people have been killed and more than 150 injured in a series of violent protests in Sri Lanka since Monday, despite a nationwide curfew.
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned on Monday in the face of public outrage. However, protesters are still demanding the resignation of his brother, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
