Ukraine is devastated by the Russian military aggression. However, the Eastern European country is trying its best to counter the Russian army. In addition, Western countries have sided with Kiev in the fight against aggression with financial and military assistance.
The United Kingdom has announced a further 1.3 billion pounds ( 1.8 billion) in military aid to Ukraine. The news agency Reuters reported this information in a report on Sunday (May 8).
According to the report, the leaders of the Group of Seven (G-7) alliance, including the United States, are scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday via video call. The United Kingdom on Saturday promised to send more military aid to the country ahead of the crucial meeting.
On the morning of February 24, Russian troops launched an attack on Ukraine. Russia’s armed forces were the first in Europe after World War II to launch an attack on Ukraine by land, air and sea. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a Russian military base.
However, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been a strong supporter of Ukraine’s efforts to repel Russian forces since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the offensive. The Johnson government has so far sent anti-tank missiles, air defense systems and many other weapons to Ukraine.
But the new pledge of military aid is almost double Britain’s previous spending commitment on Ukraine. The British government says it will spend the war in Iraq and Afghanistan the highest in any conflict. However, the country did not provide details on how much money Britain was spending on aid to Ukraine.

In a statement issued on Saturday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “(President) Putin’s brutal attack is not only destructive in Ukraine but also threatens peace and security in Europe.”
Earlier in the week, Prime Minister Johnson was the first Western leader to address the Ukrainian parliament since the start of the invasion. And this time the leaders of the G-7 countries, namely Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States, will have a virtual meeting with President Zelensky on Sunday.
The United Kingdom says the costs of providing additional assistance to Ukraine will be borne by reserves set aside for emergency use.
Earlier, the United States announced plans to send an additional মিল 150 million (US) in aid to war-torn Ukraine to counter Russia’s aggression. The new aid package was signed by US President Joe Biden on Friday.
The United States has been active in helping Ukraine fight Russian aggression. Under the new aid package, the Biden administration will send more artillery, radar and other equipment to the Eastern European country.
The 150 million arms shipment to Ukraine includes 25,000 155 mm artillery rounds, counter-artillery radar, jamming equipment, field equipment and spare parts, the BBC said.
