What is Canada’s Express entry?

The country is known as a melting pot of many different cultures because of its easy immigration policies. Canada has community-oriented, polite, and friendly people; as a result, it becomes easy for the immigrants to adapt to the new atmosphere and people. The express entry program was launched in 2015, the program helps a candidate to attain Canada’s permanent residency as soon as possible. The program includes a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) which is a point-based system that includes an evaluation system that the candidates are required to clear to be eligible for the express entry program. The program has helped professional immigration to Canada a lot easier.

The express entry system offers three significant immigration programs:-

Federal skilled worker (FSW) – this is an initiative for skilled employees who are looking forward to gaining foreign work experience and wish to immigrate to Canada. Under this program, skilled immigrants are largely welcomed in Canada. The candidate gets opportunities based on the abilities of the candidate. The candidates must have work experience of one-year full-time or equivalent part-time paid work in the last 10 years. The job must be of skill type 0 or skill levels A or B. the candidate should have language proficiency with Canadian Language Benchmark 7. The candidates should have a Canadian secondary or postsecondary certificate, diploma or degree, or a completed foreign credential with an assessment of the credential from a CIC-approved agency.

Canadian express class (CEC) – the candidates who are already working in Canada and looking to obtain permanent residency in Canada are suitable for the Canadian express class. The processing time required for a Canadian experience class is about 3-4 months and it is stated to be one of the quickest ways to attain a permanent residency. The working experience required for CEC is 12 months of skilled work experience in Canada within three years before applying for CEC. The candidates are required to have Language Benchmark 7 for NOC 0 or A jobs and Canadian Language Benchmark 5 for NOC B jobs.

A federal skilled trade (FST) – the federal skilled trades are economic immigration programs that are prioritized to work in traders’ occupations. It is qualified for the tradespersons who want to immigrate to Canada. In this program, the candidates are required to have at least two years of full-time work experience within the last five years in a skilled trade. The Canadian Language Benchmark 5 is required for the candidates. The candidates should have an offer of full-time employment for a full year minimum. 

Who Qualifies for Express Entry into Canada?

The candidates are required to have a graduation degree, at least three years of work experience, and English language proficiency. The eligible candidate can apply for immigration or permanent residency under the express entry system.

Some major documentation required are:-

  • Necessary Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
  • English language proficiency
  • Required core for Canada express entry points

For the express entry program, the candidates have to take up an Express Entry FSW test that is based on the candidate’s age, education, language proficiency, and work experience. The candidates have to score at least 67 points on the test for applying to the Express Entry system. The candidate should be in good health condition as well as they should be capable of clearing their debts. 

Once the candidates have met all the requirements, the candidates can create their Express Entry profile and have to submit their applications with the required documentation to the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The candidates having higher CRS scores have higher chances of getting selected for the Express Entry system.

How much score does a candidate need for the Express Entry system?

The score division for a candidate regarding the Express Entry system is as follows:-

Language skills- 28 points

The candidate should be well-versed in at least one of Canada’s official languages i.e. English or French. Language plays a key role in the Canadian job market as well as in the Canadian lifestyle.

Education- 25 points

The candidates are required to provide their education qualifications including a certificate, diploma, or degree if they’ve studied in any Canadian school.

Work experience- 15 points

The points in this category vary according to the number of years the candidate spent during full-time paid work (at least 30 hours per week, or an equal amount of part-time).

Age- 12 points

The candidate will get points according to their age on the day of application.

Arranged employment in Canada- 10 points

If the candidates have a job offer from a Canadian employer that lasts at least one year, then the candidate can get these points.

How does Canada Express Entry work?

The candidates who have the eligibility to obtain Canadian permanent residency under the Express Entry system have to create their online profile with beyond immigration. If a candidate successfully meets the criteria of one or more of the federal economic immigration programs under Express Entry will be sorted into a pool of eligible individuals. Then, the individuals will be given a ranking according to their chances of economic success, and the candidates who have the highest ranking will be given a formal invitation to apply for permanent residency.

The candidates who have a higher ranking in the pool will get an ITA (invitation to apply) for the permanent residency and will be given 60 days to submit their electronic application. 

After receiving the ITA and submitting the application, the candidates will receive an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR). The AOR confirms that the application has been filed successfully.
