Mount Lhotse is one of the top 10 highest mountains in the world. It is the fourth-highest mountain in the world. It is connected to Everest via the South Col. Lhotse means “South Peak” in Tibetan. It is located at the border between Tibet (China) and the Khumbu region of Nepal. Mount Lhotse was first climbed in 18 May 1956  by Mr. Fritz Luchsinger and Ernst Reiss from Switzerland. 

Mt. Lhotse is becoming famous for its tremendous and dramatic South face. Despite the tremendous vertical relief of its South and Northeast Faces, it is the least prominent of the eight-thousanders due to the great height of the South Col between it and Everest.

 Lhotse’s Western Face, recessed behind the head of the Khumbu Glacier in the Western Cwm, plays an integral part in the standard routes of ascent for both peaks; the name Lhotse, which means “South Peak” in Tibetan, further emphasizes the close relationship between the two.

It is the fifth-highest mountain in the world at 8,481 meters. It is located in the Mahalangur Himalayas 19 km southeast of Mount Everest, on the China–Nepal border. One of the eight-thousanders, Makalu is an isolated peak in the shape of a four-sided pyramid. It is located 19 km southeast of Mount Everest, on the border between Nepal and China.

 Mt Makalu was first climbed by an American team led by William Siri in the spring of 1954. The South East Ridge and the Northwest Ridge are the main climbing routes on Mt. Makalu. It is located at the coordinates of 27°53’21” N and 87°05’27” E in the eastern part of Nepal. 

Makalu was first summited on May 15, 1955, by Lionel Terray and Jean Couzy of a French expedition led by Jean Franco. Franco, Guido Magnone, and Gyalzen Norbu Sherpa submitted the next day, followed by Jean Bouvier, Serge Coupé, Pierre Leroux, and André Vialatte on the 17th.

This was an amazing achievement at the time, to have the vast majority of expedition members summit, especially on such a difficult peak. Overall it is one of the top highest mountains in the world. 

Mount Dhaulagiri

It is located just north of central Nepal. The name Dhaulagiri comes from the Sanskrit word where Dhawala means “Dazzling, White Beautiful” and Giri means “Mountain”. 

The normal climbing route for Dhaulagiri is the Northeast ridge. The exact coordinates are: 28°41’48”N, Latitude and 83°29’42”E Longitude. It was first climbed on 13 May 1960 by a Swiss-Austrian-Nepali expedition. Annapurna I east of Dhaulagiri.  The Kangchenjunga landscape is a complex of three distinct ecoregions: the eastern Himalayan broad-leaved and coniferous forests, the Eastern Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows and the Terai-Duar savanna and grasslands.

Cho Oyu is known as being one of the easiest of the 8,000 meter peaks due to its straight forward approach and lack of objective dangers. Mount Cho-Oyu was first climbed on on October 19, 1954 by Australian Joseph Joechler, Herbert Tichy (Italy), Pasang Dawa Lama (Nepal).

Just a few kilometres west of Cho Oyu is Nangpa La , a glaciated pass that serves as the main trading route between the Tibetans and the Khumbu’s Sherpas. This pass separates the Khumbu and Rolwaling Himalayas.

Due to its proximity to this pass and the generally moderate slopes of the standard northwest ridge route, Cho Oyu is considered the easiest 8,000 metre peak to climb.

 The first summit team, composed of Vera Komarkova and Irene Miller, and Sherpas Mingma Tsering and Chewang Ringjing, reached the top at 3:30 pm on 15 October 1978.
