According to Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal, the Haryana government is deploying live-map technology to reduce road accidents and vehicle overloading.

“Haryana is identifying accident-prone regions using live-map technology.” Using this technology, a grid is automatically formed on the live map for such locations, and the police receive information about such locations instantly. “I have also directed officers that the data from live map technology be shared with departments such as police, public works, health, transportation, and urban local bodies so that special attention can be given to such accident prone areas to overcome road accidents across the state,” Kaushal said following a meeting of the Road Safety Fund Management Committee.

At the conference, Kaushal warned officials that large trucks changing lanes often was a major cause of highway accidents. “As a result, sign boards should be put on the left side of roadways to allow for the flow of people and heavy trucks, and this regulation should be severely enforced,” he stated.

Kaushal advocated for proper lighting, sign boards, and highway aesthetics. “Reflective tapes and sign boards should also be installed to lessen the likelihood of accidents at blind areas and night crossings,” he stated.

A budget of around Rs 36 crore has been authorised for road safety and infrastructure development. According to Kaushal, “the funding should be provided to the district road safety committees in a structured way,” and officers should “create a list of operations to be carried out for road safety.”

A total of Rs 3 crore has been set aside for the establishment of Driving Training and Research Institutes at Yamunanagar, Palwal, and Sonepat.

“The higher education department is running a road safety awareness campaign to make college students aware of road safety measures.” “Rs 1.20 crore has been earmarked to the department for this campaign to organise various awareness events and provide widespread attention to road safety standards,” a government spokeswoman said. “At the same time, Rs 1.74 crore has been granted to the school education department for a road safety awareness programme.”
