One of the things I try to do with the services I pay for is to make sure I’m getting the best deal. Lately, I’ve been thinking that I might be paying too much for my phone service. After reading about Mint Mobile and seeing some of their ads, I thought it would be a good idea to give it a try. So, what is Mint Mobile exactly? Well, Mint Mobile is a new phone carrier that started in 2016 and is less expensive. A few people in the fire community have also told me that the service is pretty much the same as that of any other major phone company. Mint Mobile’s price is both its most important and most interesting feature. Right now, their prices are very low. I pay about $70 a month for four gigabytes of data through AT&T, which is a big difference. Here are the prices for Mint Mobile right now. At the time I’m making this video, a monthly plan with three gigabytes costs ten dollars, eight gigabytes costs fifteen dollars, and twelve gigabytes costs twenty dollars. It costs $25 a month, or $30 a month if you can use as much data as you want. You can imagine that when I saw these prices, I was both very interested and a little worried because I liked the coverage I had at the time, but it was cheaper than what I pay now for unlimited data. So I decided to sign up for it, and yes. I like listening to audiobooks, and I’d rather be able to listen to them anywhere than just at home, so I decided to pay a little more for the unlimited plan. I also like that I can stream content while I’m out and about without having to worry about how it will affect me.

If I had my data, I would feel so much better. So, I went with the unlimited plan. I said, “Hey.” I spend about half as much as I did before. So, why not give myself a treat? And, to be honest, since the price difference between what I had, which was a four-gig plan, and what would put me on their eight-gig plan for $20 per month was only $10, why not treat myself? I didn’t see much difference between that and unlimited data, but if you really wanted to save money, you could choose the $15 plan and save even more now. You should know that Mint Mobile’s prices don’t include a phone. Also, when you sign up for service with Mint Mobile, you have to pay for three months in advance, which is how they price their plans. You don’t really pay month to month like you did with your old carrier because they sell them in three-month, six-month, and 12-month chunks. But if you can, paying for three months at once will save you money in the long run. The lowest prices are only available if you pay for a year’s worth of service at once. So, if you decide to pay for three months in advance, it will cost more, but it will still be cheaper than other plans from other carriers. It’s a lot less than it would have been at first because I’m just trying it out. I also chose the three-month plan, which brings the price up to $40 per month for unlimited service, but that’s still less than half of what I was paying AT&T. Obviously, that depends on how well it works and how well it covers, so I’ll be trying it out over the next month to see how it works right now. Right now, I’m not sure if the costs I listed don’t also cover the cost of your phone. If you don’t buy your phone outright, you may have to stick to the terms of the contract you have with your current carrier. Unless there’s a way—I’ve never heard of this, but it might be possible—that you can return your phone and get out of that contract, you’ll have to see it through to the end before you can try another carrier. Mobile Mint. It also lets you buy a plan even if you don’t have a phone yet. According to their website, these plans range from $30 to $60 per month for phones, but you don’t have to buy one. I’m not sure if you also have to pay for that in three-month installments or if the agreement is month-to-month. You should also know that if you use your current phone with Mint Mobile, you must put a new SIM card in it. Now, when you sign up for a plan, they give you a SIM card and send you these small envelopes with the things you need. So, this is what it has: This has already been opened, and when I did, I tore it a little. But, hopefully, the idea is still clear. The tiny tool inside this small package is what was sent. I don’t know if you can see it, but it’s very easy to take out the sim card from your current phone, and it also comes with this tiny card. [Applause], where this small gap kind of hides the sim card. So, yes, you can see that, right? They do have some tech support videos that show you how, and they also send you a small envelope with some tips written on it. So that’s where the sim card is, and all you have to do to get it out and into your phone is pop it out. I even made a video of myself watching these movies so I could show you how to do what you need to do, but it turned out to be a long video. Please tell me in the comments if you’d like to see that as a separate movie, and I’ll come back. In the future, my name is Melissa, and I’m here to tell you about what happened when I used Mint Mobile. I know I said I’d check back in about a month, but it’s been about four months since I said that. So, I’ve been putting off the release of this movie while putting out other videos first. But I think that four months is enough time to try out Mint Mobile and report my results, which, to be honest, are pretty good. But I’ll tell you about a few times when it wasn’t quite as good as a T service. I’ll talk about when my sister and I went camping a few months ago. We were on the beach in a somewhat remote part of a state park, and my phone signal wasn’t very good there. I don’t know if it was five miles or more from the next town. I don’t know how good my signal would have been if AT&T had been my service provider, but I do know that my sister’s service was more reliable. She was able to connect with someone. She was around more often than I was, but not by much, so we didn’t see each other very often. Who wants to do their own thing when they’re camping? I had a less reliable connection, which was a little annoying, but you’re camping, so what do you expect? Next, I’ll say that even though I live in a big city, there are some places where my bars are really low. I guess I didn’t really think that would happen, but I’ll just show up wherever. It has never stopped me from doing anything I needed to do in my big city, where there were only one or two bars, which I find kind of strange. Even if I only have one or two bars, I can still make a call if I need to. Even when I only have one or two bars, I’ve been able to watch YouTube videos on my phone and listen to podcasts, which is my favorite thing to do. I’ve been able to use iTunes to download things and listen to music while I was on the road.

Using Mint Mobile hasn’t gotten in the way of any of that, but, as I said, there are times when I feel like I shouldn’t have so few bars, but I do, and, as I said, it doesn’t bother me too much. Mobile also deserves praise for something they did that I didn’t expect but is really great. I got a text message from Ryan Reynolds himself that said, “Yeah, Ryan Reynolds Owen Smith Mobile, so Ryan Reynolds Records, the texts you get from Mint Mobile.” That’s kind of funny, isn’t it? In any case, that’s kind of funny, and Ryan Reynolds was kind enough to tell me personally that I wasn’t using enough data to qualify for an unlimited plan. They suggested I downgrade my plan and pay less. What other business did you work with where they said, “Hey, you’re not using all of our services?” So why not switch to a plan that costs less? I was really impressed by that. I think that is a very moral thing to do. Thanks to Mitt Mobile, it’s totally right, even though they’re losing money because of it, because that’s what they told me to do. I liked it a lot, so I have to say that, all in all, I’m happy with Mint Mobile, especially considering the price difference. AT&T used to charge me about $70 a month, so my current monthly payment of about $40 is not enough to cover an extra $57 in service costs. I just don’t think that’s worth it. This isn’t a big sacrifice for me. I can go camping without my phone and live in a city with a few weak spots. So, I wholeheartedly agree with them. I think the service is great, and I recommend it to anyone who pays more than $40 a month for unlimited data. They also have plans that are much cheaper, but I chose this one because it was the first one I looked at. I’ll probably change it in the future, which will make it even cheaper, but for now I’m just happy. Considering how much I get for my money, you might ask, “Did I get paid to make this video and give them a good review?” The answer is no. All of this is my own opinion.
