Mahinda Rajapaksa relinquished power in the face of protests. He has already left his family’s official residence in Colombo. On Tuesday morning, the Sri Lankan media published a video of the Daily Mirror waiting for a helicopter in front of Rajapaksa’s residence.

In the video, members of the Air Force are seen lifting some people in the helicopter. They are believed to be members of the Mahinda Rajapaksa family. However, it was not known exactly which members of the Rajapaksa family were picked up in the helicopter. The Daily Mirror posted the video on their Twitter account.

Earlier on Monday, Mahinda Rajapaksa was forced to resign from the post of Prime Minister in the face of mass protests. Protesters did not calm down after his resignation. They tried to attack Temple Tree, the official residence of Mahinda Rajapaksa in Colombo last night. At that time he was trapped there with his family members. Later on Tuesday morning, Mahinda Rajapaksa left the residence under army guard.

According to the Daily Mirror, Mahinda Rajapaksa and some members of her family have taken refuge in a naval base in the northeastern city of Trincomalee. At present, the protesters have also surrounded the naval base.
