Golden Bridge is one of the top sea bridges in India. It is often referred to as the Narmada Bridge. The British constructed it in 1881 to link Ankleshwar and Bharuch, two significant cities in the state, and to facilitate trade and travel between Mumbai and Gujarat. It was created by renowned British architect Sir John Hawkshaw. 

However, the construction procedure proved challenging due to the Narmada River’s tendency for severe floods. During construction, the bridge encountered several obstacles and was demolished several times. The Narmada River, which the bridge crosses, inspired its name.

 The bridge was completed on 16 May 1881 at a cost of Rs 45.65 lakhs. Originally named the Narmada Bridge, it came to be known as the Golden Bridge on account of the heavy expenditure incurred during construction due to damage from heavy water flow. The bridge has come to represent Gujarat’s rich history and culture over time. 

Gujarat’s Golden Bridge is a historic site and a popular tourist destination nowadays. Although standing for more than 140 years, it has not rusted even slightly. Malviya Bridge

Malviya Bridge is one of the top sea bridges in India. It is introduced in 1887 and is a twofold decker connected over the Ganges at Varanasi. It conveys a rail track on the lower deck and a street on the upper deck.  For the development of the Dufferin Bridge was Frederick Thomas Granville Walton, who proceeded to end up the Engineer in Chief of the Awadh and Rohilkhand Railway organization.

 The extension was renamed as the Malviya Bridge in 1948 after Madan Mohan Malaviya. It is one of the significant scaffolds on the Ganges and conveys the Grand Trunk Road over the river. The Jubilee Bridge is one of the top sea bridges in India. It is in West Bengal is a rail bridge that has been constructed on the Hooghly River and connects Naihati with Bandel. On either end of the bridge are located the railway stations Garifa and Hooghly Ghat. The work for the construction of the bridge began in 1882 and it was completed in 1887. 

The person responsible for the civil work related was Lt Col Arthur John Barry who was the nephew of the Project Engineer responsible for the construction of London Tower Bridge, Sir John Wolfe-Barry. The people who designed the bridge were Sir Bradford Leslie who was also the Chief Engineer of India and the other person was Alexander Meadows Rendel.

 The steel used in the construction of the bridge was taken from two companies one is the Hawks Crawshay of Gateshead company in England and the second is the company based in Scotland named James Goodwin of Mother Well.

 Jubilee Bridge served the people for 129 years, and several generations used the service to cross the River Hooghly. The bridge has the distinction of being the first permanent crossing over the Hooghly, which had been considered unbridgeable owing to difficult foundation conditions at that time.  The bridge spans the Yamuna River, connecting Prayagraj with the NH-27. This strategic connection has enhanced connectivity and facilitated the smoother movement of goods and people, contributing to regional development and economic growth. 

The bridge boasts two concrete pylons that provide crucial support to the bridge deck, which is held together by a network of sturdy steel cables. This cable-stayed configuration allows for a visually striking appearance while ensuring the bridge’s stability and strength. Moreover, it is one of the top sea bridges in India.

Bandra Worli Sea Link

It is officially named ‘Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link’, one of the top sea bridges in India. It is 5.6 kilometres long, an 8-lane architectural, engineering and infrastructural marvel of India. It is the first cable-stay bridge built on open seas in India. The contract for the construction of the sea link was awarded to Hindustan Construction Company by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.

The management of the project was headed by the multidisciplinary consulting organization, Dar Al- Handasah, from their UK offices. The bridge is designed to cater to around 37,500 vehicles per day while reducing the time travel between Bandra and Worli by a big margin.

Overlooking the magnificent blue waters of Mahim Bay, this splendid architecture is a mighty sight to behold.
