Looking good is a desire we all have in us. Very few of us will be able to deny this. What does it mean to “look good”? It includes a lot of factors. The two main factors are having a great body and having beautiful skin. You may be a woman or a man, young or old. You always want to be in great shape and be associated with great skin.
Weight management and skincare are the most sought-after areas of the health and wellness industry. Gyms are full of men and women who are working hard to get in shape. Some, of course, are there to stay in shape. Beauty salons are frequented by more than just women. Even men undergo various skin treatments.
In this fast age and busy schedules, is it possible to achieve and maintain a great body and lovely skin? Let us look at some simple and practical ways to achieve this. To keep things simple, we will look at weight management and skincare separately.
Managing your weight
Obesity has been on the rise for the last few decades. This has happened due to our lifestyle and eating habits. In our quest for a better lifestyle, we have adopted busy schedules that have no time for sleep and exercise. We eat fast food to maintain our schedules. Change your lifestyle.
A few things before you start
- Find your current body mass index (BMI).
- Find your ideal BMI.
- A realistic date by which we want to achieve an ideal BMI.
To achieve the ideal weight, all we need to do is take care of a few things
Improper eating habits are one of the main reasons for obesity. One seldom looks at the ill effects of what we eat and drink. Let us look at soft drinks. A single glass of cola contains approximately 39 grams of sugar (recommended intake is less than 30 grams a day). A small pack of potato chips adds approximately 35 grams of fat (recommended intake is around 40 grams a day). Avoid these foods completely.
Practice healthy eating. Include good portions of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. They will supply the vitamins and minerals without the fat. Add one portion of nuts and seeds that will provide Omega oils and dietary fiber. Replace processed flour with whole-grain flour. Include quest protein bars as a snack of your choice.
Buy organic produce. If possible, avoid genetically modified foods. Stay away from desserts. You are good if you keep sugar at bay. Drink around 8 glasses of water each day. Cut down on alcoholic drinks.
Eat slowly and chew your food well. It helps the digestion process by breaking food into essential nutrients. Thus, our body can absorb the nutrients better.
Reduce the urge to snack between meals. Allow the digestive system to take its time to do its work properly. Moreover, snacking will only help to add to your weight.
Start taking nutritional supplements. Many feel they are expensive. It is expensive not to have them. Choose any well-known brand to get the maximum benefits.
There is no need to rush to the closest gym. Unless you are obese, you can do simple exercises. A brisk walk of 30 to 40 minutes will burn up the extra fat in your body. Some exercises can be done at home or outdoors. Simple exercises like jumping jacks and planks will help shed that extra weight. A few sets of these will be good enough. Yoga is good for both mind and body. Cycle to work instead of driving. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Set apart some time for activity. Follow the schedules for activities. In less than a year you will see amazing results.
While we are awake, the body goes through a lot of wear and tear. While we sleep, our body does all the repairs. To stay healthy, we need about 8 hours of sleep every day. Eat a light dinner at least 4 hours before going to bed. Instead of watching television, listen to soothing music before bedtime. When you sleep, sleep like a baby.
Managing your skin
Look at a baby. It is a joy to look at their lovely skin. We are all born with beautiful skin. As we grow older, our skin gets damaged. Is it possible to manage and maintain good skin? Is it possible to reduce the effects of aging on the skin? The answer is “positive.” Take good care of your skin with some simple steps.
Your skin reflects the kind of nutrition it gets. A healthy diet gives you a great body. Very few people know that it helps maintain good, healthy skin too.
Drink lots of water
70% of our body is made up of water. Lack of water is a major cause of dull skin. Keep your skin hydrated to keep it supple.
Keep it clean
Cleaning your skin regularly is very important to maintain it. We must understand that the skin is the largest organ in the body. This organ is exposed to elements, dust, and pollution. Wash your skin to remove the dust and pollution. Make sure to use chemical-free, natural soaps, and cleansers. For best results, follow the rule of cleaning, toning, and moisturizing (CTM) twice a day. Once a week, use a mild exfoliating cleanser to remove the dead skin. Use hydrating lotions to help retain youthfulness.
Sleep, as we discussed earlier, helps in the repair process. Lack of sleep will always manifest as lackluster skin. What is good for your body is good for your skin too. Get 8 hours of beauty sleep for beautiful-looking skin.
You can achieve the ideal, in shape, healthy body, and lovely, well-maintained skin. It only requires making a few changes to the way we live. Weight management and skincare need your desire and an unshakable will to take good care of your body and skin.
