The operation to arrest the helmet holders in New Market is underway: DB

During the clash between Dhaka Market students and businessmen of New Market, all those who clashed after wearing helmets are terrorists. They must be brought under the law. Multiple teams of the Detective Branch (DB) are conducting raids to nab the helmeted terrorists.

This was stated by Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (South) Police Mahbub Alam at a press conference held at DMP Media Center on Wednesday (April 26).Responding to a question from reporters, he said two young men were killed in the clashes in Newmarket. Two separate cases are under investigation by the detective police. One is the murder of Nahid and the other is the case of Morsalin’s murder.

The intelligence officer further said that the people involved are being identified by analyzing the hair of the footage of Nahid’s murder. The work of identification has come a long way.

He said that many people have gone home or are in hiding as the hostel of Dhaka College has been closed. However, several DB teams are trying to arrest them. Good results will be announced soon.

Asked if there were any BCL leaders and activists among the identified persons, Mahbub Alam said there was no BCL committee there. However, those who clashed after wearing helmets are all terrorists. They must be brought under the law.

On April 17, at around 12 midnight, traders and shop workers of New Market clashed with the students of Dhaka College. The clash lasted for about two and a half hours. After that, the situation came under control at night, but the next day, after 10 am on April 19, the clashes started again and again, which continued till evening.

Two people have so far died in the clashes. One of them is a deliveryman, the other is a shop employee. At least 50 people, including journalists and police, were injured.

Deliveryman Nahid’s father died in the incident. Nadeem Hossain filed a murder case with Newmarket Police Station. Mursalin’s brother has filed another murder case.

Meanwhile, the police filed two cases as plaintiffs in the incident. One is under the Explosives Act and the other is for assaulting police. A total of 1,200 people, including businessmen and employees of New Market and students of Dhaka College, were accused in the two cases.
