7 TV Shows That Became Real-Life Games

Games have been around for a long time, and they have evolved as technology advances. Even today, new games are being designed by developers who draw inspiration from movies, books, and even television shows, which makes playing games that much more entertaining.

When TV shows become games, it can be exciting to play as your favorite characters or pretend you’re a contestant on a game show! So, if you’re looking to find some fun new games to play with your friends or family this weekend, here are seven games inspired by TV shows that you might enjoy.

1. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

This hit game show, which debuted in 1999, really did as it promised. Hosted by popular talk show host, actor, and singer Regis Philbin, its tagline was “Fastest Finger First”. Contestants were asked a series of multiple-choice questions until they reached the final $1 million question.

While you won’t be able to win the million dollars from your sofa, you can put your brain to the test with the video game based on the series. Versions of the WWTBAM game have been made for nearly every platform available – from PC and PlayStation to mobile apps and even board games.

2. Desperate Housewives

In 2006, a company called Liquid Entertainment made a video game for Windows called Desperate Housewives: The Game. While it was pretty poorly received, its plot was based on the show’s first season and saw players moving to Wisteria Lane, playing as an amnesiac wife.

The game featured voice acting from Brenda Strong, who played narrator Mary Alice Young in the series. A later 2017 version of the game was released on iOS by MegaZebra. In this edition, players interact with the other housewives on Wisteria Lane to uncover the secrets behind the seemingly idyllic lifestyle.

3. The Muppets

The Muppets video games let you play as your favorite characters (Kermit, Miss Piggy, and so on) from The Muppet Show. There are Muppets games for just about any console – from RaceMania on the PlayStation to Spy Muppets on the Gameboy Advance.

Although the characters are based on the show, the games take on some whacky storylines. For example, in the 1983 Atari game Pigs in Space, you’ll have to help Miss Piggy jump across the screen while dodging flying meatballs (yes, really)!

4. Star Trek

Over its nearly 60 years of existence, Star Trek has gotten video game adaptations for just about every platform, from the NES to the PlayStation 5, and in various genres. Role-playing games, first-person shooters, puzzle games – you name it, there’s a Starfleet captain in there somewhere. There are even Star Trek-themed casino games and mobile games.

Star Trek was also adapted into dozens of physical games, including card, board, and tabletop war games. There are even four different Star Trek pinball games! So, if you’re a Star Trek fan, you have no shortage of entertainment to choose from.

5. Sesame Street

When Sesame Street first debuted, it was just a show that happened to be aimed at children. But then, like many other shows and movies in its era, it spawned a video game, and then another one, and then another one!

From Big Bird’s Egg Catch on the Atari 2600 to Elmo’s Musical Monsterpiece released in 2012 on Wii, Sesame Street games have delighted children for decades. Parents can rest assured that Sesame Street video games are educational – there’s no need to feel guilty about too much screen time!

6. Game of Thrones

While you won’t need a throne to sit on, you will need an Xbox, PS4, or Nintendo Switch to enjoy one of the video games from the Game of Thrones series.

The games star beloved characters like Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister as they try to navigate a world of bloodlust and treachery. But, it’s not all about fighting and war. In many of these games, you’ll also have to take care of dragon eggs and cultivate the land for food and materials – ideal for anyone who loves role-playing games.

7. Adventure Time
