WhatsApp services have been restored, and the app should be operational again shortly if it hasn’t already. It is now accessible via the Android and iOS apps, as well as WhatsApp Web. It should be noted that some users complain that services are still unavailable on WhatsApp Web, but your phone app should be operational.
WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging programme owned by Meta and used by many for rapid texting, experienced a significant outage earlier this week, with the app going down for nearly two hours. As a result, millions of WhatsApp users around the world were unable to send or receive messages.
“The brief outage was caused by a technical issue on our part and has since been fixed,” said a Meta Company spokeswoman.
The disruption has been proven to have affected both personal and group chats. DownDetector, an outage tracking website, also confirmed that WhatsApp was not operating for many users across many areas.
WhatsApp Online, the app’s web version that many people use on their desktops and laptops, was also affected by the outage, but services for the web client have been restored as well. Anyone attempting to use the client during the outage encountered a connectivity problem.
This was WhatsApp’s first big outage since the wider Meta outage on October 5, which brought down WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook simultaneously, affecting millions of users for several hours before the services were restored.
The interruption was acknowledged by WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, and a representative stated that “the brief outage was caused by a technical issue on our part and has since been repaired.”
