In a post regarding the feature release, one of the X engineers working on the project mentioned that Android users will be able to access it following an app update.

The platform’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, initially discussed implementing video calls in August 2023. In October, iOS users were able to utilize the feature.

Notably, only paying customers can conduct calls; however, any user can receive calls. It’s one of a long list of features available only to X paying subscribers. X did, however, take away the option earlier in the month for premium members to choose an NFT as their profile photo.

Settingle > Privacy and Safety> Direct Messages > allows users to turn on or off calling. Make video and voice calls possible. Those in their address book, those they follow, and verified users can all manage who can contact them using the same option. From these choices, they can choose more than one.

X is still adamant about wanting to be an “everything app.” The firm unveiled its vision for 2024 earlier this month, which included the introduction of peer-to-peer payment, new xAI-powered features like “show dissimilar posts,” and other ad solutions for advertisers.

Advertisers are reportedly choosing to spend their money on LinkedIn instead of X after Musk allegedly ordered them to “go f*ck yourself” at an event in November 2023.

In summary, adding audio and video call features to Android by X signifies a significant advancement in the platform’s capabilities. This improvement widens the array of communication choices for Android users and corresponds to the increasing demand for versatile and feature-packed mobile experiences. As X remains dedicated to innovation and fostering user engagement, the incorporation of audio and video calls reflects a proactive approach to address the evolving needs of its user community. This update is set to improve the overall communication landscape on Android devices, offering users more seamless and integrated methods to connect with others. X’s commitment to enhancing user experiences as technology progresses underscores its position as a forward-looking and user-focused platform.
