People frequently send messages to themselves using messaging apps. So much so that messaging applications like Telegram, Signal, and WhatsApp have built-in bookmarking and note-taking tools. With the “DM-to-yourself” phenomenon in mind, Qept, a new note-taking app for iOS, was created by developer Willem de Beijer.

Although several popular chat applications provide a self-texting option, the creator said that Qept is superior in organizing and revising notes. He claimed that the program enables users to quickly create to-do lists to schedule daily activities or shop for food conveniently.

Like in any chat application, you can start typing and press “send” to send a note or a thought. The textbox is conveniently marked with a checkmark, allowing you to make a checklist or to-do list quickly. A “Topic” can be assigned to a note for better organization. However, it is not required to do so.

The home timeline will display all notes, regardless of whether they have a topic. Users can still change it even after sending a message to the timeline. According to De Beijer, app users can soon hide or collapse notes related to a specific topic. Users can also quickly reveal or conceal archived messages with a single swipe.

The developer will provide upgrades over the coming weeks, including enhanced aesthetic appearance and navigation, a filter for archived notes, the capacity to include a reminder, and the ability to style messages with bullet points. De Beijer intends to introduce capabilities like note search, mass editing, and support for rich links in a Mac program this year.

Users must pay $7.99 a month to add more than three topics to the app after downloading it for free. Later, the developer said that he intended to add more professional capabilities, such as support for images and files.

Functionality-wise, Qept is comparable to Stashpad, which funded $1.8 million from operators at Postman, Loom, and Webflow as well as Alex Solomon, CTO of PagerDuty, Will Larson, CTO of Calm, and others last year. Stashpad, on the other hand, focuses primarily on developers and has a free usage cap of 50 notes per device. You can pay $10 per month or $96 annually to access limitless note sync and pro features.

Users who require basic note-taking functionality and frequently use checklists to complete tasks can consider Qept a better free alternative.

In conclusion, Qept is a user-friendly iOS note-taking app that facilitates quick and efficient self-messaging. Its messaging-style interface offers a straightforward way to capture and organize your thoughts, reminders, and important information on your iOS device. Qept is a handy tool for personal organization and productivity, allowing you to send messages to yourself for future reference and convenience easily.
