Snapchat is getting ready to dive deeper into generative AI features after previously introducing its AI-powered chatbot My AI, which can now respond with a Snapback rather than just text? With its following successful AI tool, “Dreams,” the company will experiment with AI images once more. Still, this time, the pictures might eventually feature you and your pals in imaginative settings.

According to findings from app researcher and developer Steve Moser, the company has been developing features that let Snapchat users capture or upload selfies, enabling the software to make new pictures of you in scenarios you can imagine. This sounds comparable to features seen in other AI photo apps available on the App Store.

One such app, Remini, went viral last month after TikTok users discovered they could upload their selfies to receive professional-looking headshots for LinkedIn without paying for a professional picture shoot.

Instead, Dreams are envisioned to use AI-generated selfies to put pictures of you in “fantastical places and scenarios,” according to Moser’s research. Snapchat would need clean selfies to work with, not ones with other people in them or ones where your features are hidden, just like other AI selfie apps. Users will receive advice from the program on how to take better AI images by using a variety of viewpoints, facial expressions, and lighting conditions.

The company is also working on Dreams with Friends, where users may enable their friends to make these AI “dream” images depicting them, as Moser discovered. In addition to allowing you to enter these AI “Dreams,” this feature is still in development.

Dream Packs are mentioned in the Snapchat app, which further suggests that this feature may be monetized someday.

Reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi made the initial discovery of Dreams earlier this spring. He said users could add their likeness to worlds driven by generative AI. Sandwiched between the Camera Roll and Stories in the Snapchat app, he discovered the new feature to be noticeable.

Snapchat is expanding its functionality, as evidenced by the most recent updates to Dreams with Friends and the Dream Packs. Snap Inc. declined to comment on its plans for Dreams.
