The Mandalorian expanded on the Star Wars universe in plenty of ways. One of them was bringing us sweet outfits for our new favorite characters. Star Wars has always been known for its epic costumes. Some are iconic and detailed (looking at you Darth Vader), some are understated but absolute classics (hi Han Solo), but all are embedded in the cinematic imagination of the entire world. With the premiere of the first-ever live-action Star Wars television program, The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm and Disney have attempted to live up this well-dressed legacy.

While the stormtrooper armor is just a nice throwback to the original trilogy (as we’ve all grown so accustomed to the new design from The Force Awakens) here are a few original outfits we have all had the chance to enjoy.

1 The Armorer

When fans talk about Mandalorian armor, it used to be mostly Boba Fett and Sabine Wren. They both had their own special details and flare, but with helmets of a traditional design. The Armorer, who seems to lead the Mandalorian Covert on Navarro, has specially designed horns protruding just slightly from the top of her traditional Mandalorian helmet. If in this covert you’re never allowed to take the helmet off, it makes perfect sense that you might want to personalize it a little bit more to your liking.

2 Mayfield

At first glance, Mayfield’s outfit may not look like much more than a black t-shirt and a gun holster, but throughout the episode, fans get to further appreciate the little details. For instance, those brown leather suspenders he seems to be wearing over his torso also hold another automatic weapon that, like a pirate captain’s parrot, can jump up and pop out to help mow down the enemy as needed. That’s a pretty cool addition.

3 Dr. Pershing

It’s not necessarily an outfit you would want to wear but Dr. Pershing’s particular ensemble stands out in this underworld universe in part for its cleanliness. His high collar and the off white shoulders of his outfit stand out against the more sand-colored gray stylings of the rest of him. He looks particularly put together due to the black lines that make his shoulders look broader than they really are, and who can’t appreciate a pair of spectacles to help pull it all together.

4 Moff Gideon

Like Lando Calrissian who doesn’t appreciate a good cape? Gideon’s whole persona is on display as he struts out in full black including the cape, boots, and tie fighter gear. It’s an impressive picture against his battalion of white-clad stormtroopers ready to back him up. His personality helps him pull it all off, but this Moff certainly knows how to dress for his job.

5 Driver

In the pilot episode of The Mandalorian, Mando lets the world know his distaste for droids by refusing a lift from an astromech driven speeder and only accepting a ride from a broken down speeder and its bearded driver instead. Played by comedian Brian Posehn, this pilot gets to rock a fur-lined hooded jacket and a pretty cool pair of goggles for his one appearance on the show. We know he and his cool threads won’t be returning because we watch him die a few minutes after dropping Mando off at the Razor Crest.

6 Peli Motto

She may be a simple spaceport employee on Tatooine, but Peli Motto knows how to make an impression. There’s no way to watch The Mandalorian episode five and not want her jumpsuit by the time it is over. We would even take the top half as just a cool high collard jacket. If she cleaned it up right she would be ready to party as soon as her shift ended in Mos Eisley. Orange and brown with some excellent detailing on the shoulders and arms make this one a winner.

7 Greef Karga

Karga is the big boss of The Bounty Hunters Guild and he needs to dress like he’s in charge. With his long cross body half cape and vest, it’s not a look everyone could pull off, but Karga certainly does, and he doesn’t look like someone you would want to mess with. It also makes him stand out, so there’s no way a newbie (like Toro) could miss him if they were in the neighborhood for an assignment or a chat.

8 Cara Dune

Cara is always dressed for battle but yet she never looks uncomfortable, and that’s quite a feat in and of itself. Like Mando, she doesn’t wear full armor but opts for a chest plate and shoulder pads. She owns black as her color and the mechanized gauntlets she wears on her arms help her pull everything together. With short sleeves to show off her shock trooper tattoos, she is certainly not hiding behind her outfit but using it to highlight who she is and what she does.

9 Mando

We might think we’ve seen Mandalorian armor before, whether on Boba Fett or Sabine Wren, but watching The Armorer make Mando’s outfit seems to bring his whole look to a whole different level. This is Mandalorian armor at its freshest and most primal, and that’s a pretty cool look (especially before it gets all scratched and shot up later in the season). The incredible shine of the new beskar is a thing to behold in episode three.

His belt and bandolier help to accessorize while still being useful and not getting in the way. By not wearing full plate the man can still move and that’s certainly not the case for every outfit in the universe.

10 Baby Yoda

Who knew a potato sack could be the new look for 2020? Baby Yoda probably did.

More details become noticeable as the season progresses. This isn’t just an adorable mini Jedi robe, this is an outfit all its own. The thing has a cowl neck of sorts, and the sleeves get rolled up, even if they’re not always short enough to allow the baby easy use of his arms. It also seems that the whole thing is closed across the bottom, keeping Baby Yoda’s feet warm and dry as he waddles his way across the galaxy with his space dad.

Dark Saber

The dark saberr was an ancient black-bladed lightsaber. It had a unique blade that was shorter than most lightsabers and shaped like a traditional sword.
